What does backache have to do with my heart?

by Tybo, Oct 26, 2006 12:00AM
Just went to the doctor. Have gallbladder problems and internal bleeding somewhere but not from my gallbladder. Doctor said my back pain I've had for over 3 years can be a sign of heart problems. Seems to think my heart is leaking blood somewhere. He told me I've lost a quart of blood and wanted to put me in the hospital for a blood transfusion but I refused. Taking iron pills to try to get blood level back up. Blood level is at 6 and that is very low almost unheard of.What kind of diseases make your heart bleed?

Where is your back pain located at?  i.e. lower or midback?  Midback pain can come from the heart, but also from the gallbladder and the stomach.  That is why doctors want to check out the heart if the patient complains of "midback pain" to rule out a heart condition.

My hematocrit was at 16, and my doc didn't really give me a choice.  It took 3 transfusions to get me to a level where he would let me come home.  It was after the birth of my 2nd child.  If you're at six...you need help immediately.  I was told that any lower than I was (16), major organ systems could start shutting down, in order to sustain my heart and brain...I'm definitely trying to scare you into seeing a doc.  I know its difficult b/c of all you hear about transfusions...I know, I've been there.  However, you need serious medical attention.  I hope that the number you gave us is incorrect.
Good luck, and let us know how you are.
