Thanks for writing to the forum!
ANA stands for Antinuclear Antibody. The ANA test is ordered when a patient shows signs and symptoms of SLE or any other autoimmune disorder. The titer shows how many times fluid is mixed with the patient's blood to get a sample free of ANAs.
Generally any number LESS than 1:80 (1 part plasma with 8 parts diluting solution (fluid)) is read as a negative ANA.
1:80 is considered a "low positive" and more tests are required to confirm the diagnosis. Most of people with 1:80 ANA do not have SLE or an autoimmune disorder.
Hope this helps. Do let me know if there is any thing else and keep me posted. Take care!
