What's causing my near BlackOuts, nausea, hot flashes, chills, dry mouth, dizziness, etc.?

Here's what I've been experiencing (it all started Sunday morning while I was taking a shower):  I felt like I was not completely conscious, but still standing and showering, then all at once I began blacking out, feeling extremely nauseus, and hot--like I was burning up.  My mouth and throat became very dry, and I felt dizzy.  This lasted for approximately 1-2 minutes and then subsided, followed by feeling extremely cold (chills).  My husband helped me to the bed.  About  10 minutes later the same thing happened, only this time I also felt pain in my chest and down my arms.  I became really hot again except for my feet remained very cold.
I had these episodes throughout the day lasting 1-2 minutes at a time, and reoccuring every 15 - 30 minutes.  My first one was @10am and the last @4:00pm.  My husband took me to the ER.  They put me on an EKG monitor, did bloodwork, a urine test, took my temperature and said everything looks normal.  They sent me home with no answers. Has anyone had this happen to them?  I was diagnosed with relapsing-remitting MS in 1994, but have never experienced anything like this before.  I am desperate to know what caused this.  The ER docs just wrote it off as being an anxiety attack.  I know better.  Something else is going on.  I have not been particularty worried or anxious about anything lately.  What's causing my anxiety NOW is doctors telling me everything is fine, when I know it is NOT.  Please, if anyone knows anything about this, or has suggestions of what I could look into, I would be so grateful!  Thank you!

I have had the sake symptoms. I feel like I am blacking out, nauseous, sweating and feel really hot on my upper body.  I have been to the er and my doctor twice. They checked my thyroid and liver and other blood work. Everything is fine. I was sent to a heart specialist here in Arkansas. I had a heart monitor put on, and I wore it for 48 hours. I willget the results this week or next. I will let you know what the results are. Good luck everyone. I hope you all find the problem and get better. Lisa

Hi! I am 15 years old and similar things just occured to me today, i came on to hopefully find out whats going on, i do not have anxiety trust me! and was told that if i have to hot of showers it causes something in my blood system to stop, dehydration sets in almost immediately and then i get dizzy, my eyes go fuzzy almost sparkly, my ears sound echoed/ fuzzy, then i pass out, and when i awake its followed by vommiting uncontrollably, for anyone who has had this happen to them, you know its terrible, because you cannot have hot tubs, saunas, hot showers, hot baths because its just to dangerous, i was wondering if anyone knows any ideas besides the obvious avoiding those things so that i can enjoy saunas and hot tubs with my friends
thank youuu(L)

I been to the doctor also, she said it could be due to menopause. I have  had peptic ulcers , which are better now,  I am on Omeprazole tabs. I have hypertension also and my Dr gave me Amlovasc tabs, which I stopped thought may be dizziness is because of those. What shall I do, I am not sure. Just need some help. Thanks

These could be hypothyroid symptoms. Get a  simple thyroid blood test. Ask for TSH, Free T3 and Free T4.  No food for 14 hours before it. If your doctor doesn't understand these tests, go  to an endocologist. bless you

I'm a seventeen year old girl and i have been experiencing some of the same symptms for over a year now. My symptms never started occuring until after i had Knee surgery. I had my knee surgery on a wednesday and Sunday i got up to go to the bathroom and try and get ready for church. when i was washing my hands i began to feel  extremely hot and i started having shortness of breath..my eyes were blacking out and i started to freak out. i yelled for my mom saying i felt like i was going to pass out but before i could repeat myself for her to hear me i passed out and woke up to my mom screaming and slapping my face trying to wake me up. An ambulance came and got me and i went the ER and everything was "fine." Ever since then these symptms have been reoccuring at least once a week except i don't pass out because when i feel the symptms coming on i lay down. The last time i went to the doctor i had to get blood work done for a regular routine and i almost passed out. the same thing happened when i got a shot. so they had a bunch of test ran on me an EKG, a table tilt, a bunch of blood work but everything came back normal. i don't know what is going on and either do the doctors. It's really frustrating and i don't know what to do! can anyone help?

Hello, I am 16 years old and just a little bit ago I was getting out of my hot-tub and as I stood up fully, I got really dizzy. I tried to make my way into the house to get a bottle of water, and in the process, I collapsed in the hallway, I have no idea how long I was out, and the next thing i knew I was sitting at the kitchen counter drinking water. Now I am very cold and I am very worried. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Please email me with any help, thank you. ***@****

I've had the same symptoms you all describe off and on in a random pattern for at least 15 years now. (I'm 53).
I'll be just going about my business and then out of the blue one of these attacks will hit me  and everything will go fuzzy and I feel hot and as if I'm going to faint. I have to sit or lie down until the feeling passes--which usually just takes seconds.
I was tested 10 years ago for my heart, had a MRI too and they didn't find anything wrong with me at that time.  I think perhaps I'll be going back for re-testing soon as these attacks are becoming more frequent the older I get and also a new wrinkle has been added to the mix as my ears now also ring after one of these attacks.
I know how terrifying thses attacks can be.  I was diagnosed for years by Doctors as having panic attacks and was put on many different medications.  None of them helped as I seemed to get the attacks whether I was on medication or off it.
Good luck and I hope you find an answer to your particular bad spells.----Georgia T.

Ask your DR to do a Tilt Table Test to see if you have Dysautonomia/Syncope.  I have it and some of your
symptoms are the same.

I`m 22 years old, and that same episode has happened to me about 5 times now... each within months apart. It doesn`t reoccur within the same day after its already happened, but when it does happen its always terrifying. I know what you`re feeling. The first 2 times I was in the hot shower as well and then all of the sudden I felt my body temperature become extremely high and I felt dizzy, light-headed, and nauseous and blacked out. I was able to get myself to my bed where I laid down and eventually felt perfectly fine again. The first 2 times I was also on the first day of my period. The several times it happened to me after that were all random... no period, no shower, same symptoms. I`ve seen a doctor about it and he said that it was one of three problems: 1.) glucose/ wheat allergy, 2.) heart, 3.) neurological. We did blood work to see if it was a glucose or blood issue and everything came back as normal. I`m scheduled to have my heart checked, but I think I`m going to get a professional second opinion first. Has anyone else heard similiar things from their doctors???

Hello,
I also am having the same problems. I am 27yrs. old and I have no children. For no reason I will feel like I am starting to get warm, then really hot. Then things start to go fuzzy like I am about to pass out. I get really unsteady and I must sit down or lay down. I have fallen because I did not sit fast enough. I  After I sit or lay down for a few minutes I feel a little weak but then I am fine. This episode will happen at random times. Sometimes after I get out of a hot shower or bath, doing my make-up or just talking standing up. They have never happened while I have been sitting. After I start to feel better then I also go from being really hot to really cold. I went to doctors and they thought it was my thyroid, that was not the case. I had an episode this past Mon. and by husband who is a nurse was talking my pulse after he caught me, he said that there was a brief moment that he could not feel my pulse and believes my heart stopped. This has him very concerned, and it looks like we are going to go back to see doctors. If anyone knows what it is or even what they think it might be any help would still be help. I don't know if this is related to the fainting spells but my sweat glands are not normal and I don't sweat as much as a normal person does when they are hot. The only spot that I do sweat is at night in the middle of my chest. I can wake up and my chest is soaked, but the rest of me is fine, anyone else have this happen to them?

the reason I am on this site is because I have been having chest pains and dizziness, my legs go wobbly and I get an over whelming fear of passing out and having a heart attack, all this fear with heart attacks happened after my papa died of a heart attack but used to suffer anxiety attacks,so in my mind I am thinking he was just like me and finally the big one came.... this makes every anxiety attack really scary. I have been to ER once a few years ago and I was fine, but also when I eat I get it so maybe look into food giving you heart burn then triggering the other axiety symptoms which then increase the heart burn

I have experienced the same symptoms your experiencing but with malaise, body aches, fever, like having the flu like feeling. Hot showers will make the feeling worse. Since 1988 at age 24 after having my second child. I was treated with morphine at the time. They went away after I went on a healthy diet and exercise routine. But then they came back after having my third child (4 years later) when my child was about 5 years old. I was put on Zoloft, but it made me feel like a zombie after taking it for a year so I stopped taking it and started taking better care of myself and the symptoms disappeared once again. There could be an underlying problem that Doctors are not testing for. Has your doctor checked for STDs. I was recently checked for STDs again but this time I made sure the Dr would check me for HPV1 and HPV2. In the past I was tested for the other STDs but for whatever reason my other GYNS did not include the HPV1 and HPV2. Well to my surprise the test came back Pos+ for HPV1 and HPV2. I am devastated because I have never had a breakout around my mouth but I have had rashes appear around the vaginal area. I suspect this was always the problem but the Drs never bothered checking for it when I gave birth to my second child, the GYN checked for other STDs after the six week check up with my second child and I had contracted Trichamonisis from my first husband and that was the same time I probably contracted HPV1 and HPV2 19 years ago. I would ask your Dr. to test for STDs including HPV1 and HPV2. Also if you are  under age 40 you may be experiencing POV premature ovarian failure. It is the loss of ovarian function in women under the age of 40 you do not ovulate each month. The first sign of POV is abnormal or missed periods. Your would have to ask your Dr. to check your estrogen levels and FSH levels. Also talk to your Dr about other tests associated with POV. If you need more information on POV to to

I have also experienced the same symptoms. It all began about a month ago, when I started feeling lightheaded, dizzy and sort of detached , like you do when you have a panic attack. Then my stomach would "flip" and I would have diarrhea. I went to my family doctor who increased my thyroid meds (the were low) and started me back on Paxil for panic attacks which I've had in the past. The next morning at 4:30am I was awakened with a wave of dizziness and a hot flash traveling from my mid back down both arms and settling in my chest, last about 1-2 minutes and then recurring every 10 minutes, with nausea, weakness, sweating,
The ER did an EKG and cardiac enzymes (both normal) and other blood work (I am anemic) and chalked it up to anxiety. It happened the next day at work from 11:30-7pm, with another trip to the ER and no sympathy. I was sent home and it happened again at 5:30am the next day and lasted all day. The only respite I got was sleeping from the xanax they prescribed me, then it would come back. I was told it was a reaction to Paxil, but I know better because I took it before for over a yr. My family doc thought early menopause and did labs (which were neg.) and I am 42.  He started me on Effexor for panic and I have been on it for about a week with some Klonopin to help with the anxiety until the full effect of the Effexor, and I have had no episodes- YET.  I am really anemic and have to take 650 mg of iron/day. I have really heavy periods with some clots. I am scared of the anemia and fear I may have some cancer of the GI or uterus or ovaries and no one believes me, and that I'll die before I am properly diagnosed or it will be too late to fix me.

I had a panic/anxiety attack that felt the same.  I had just got a new tattoo and was washing it in the shower when all of a sudden I felt really light headed and nauseous and I told my H I needed to get out of the shower.  I step backwards and fainted for a split second.  He sat me down and i still felt light headed and dizzy and I couldn't breath.  I just looked up and said, "I think I am having a panic attack" and like that it was over.

Thoughts of doom are very comman.  I have laid in bed and told my H I thought i was dying and I really thought that.  Physically I would feel okay but mentally I thought I had an illness and was going to die.

Good luck with everything!

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,

For syncope/fainting to occur, either the reticular activating system in the brain needs to lose its blood supply, or both hemispheres of the brain need to be deprived of blood, oxygen, or glucose.

So it can be due to fall in BP,hypoglycemia, dehydration and inadequate electrolytes in the body, postural hypotension(orthostatic hypotension),, blockage of arteries supplying blood to the brain esp. the carotids, anemia, vasovagal attacks or underlying neurological conditions(like MS and motor neuron disease)

Sometimes, there are partial or complete blockages in the arteries that supply the brain with blood.  These blockages can cause a temporary loss of blood flow (called transient ischemic attack, or TIA for short), or permanent loss of blood flow (called stroke; also called cerebrovascular accident). This can lead to impaired blood flow through these arteries and so dizziness. In such cases CT brain can be useful.I feel that you seem to be having TIA.Pls consult a neurologist for complete neurological examination as predisposing factor of MS is also present in your case.

Get yourself examined by an eye specialist and ENT specialist too as dizziness can also be caused by refractory changes and changes in the power of accommodation of the eyes. Ear infections and other causes like Meniere’s disease or inner ear diseases can also lead to dizziness.

Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing.
