What's the possible cause of my cough?

I'm female. I've never smoked, done drugs or anything like that. Several months ago, I had a sore throat from screaming too much that turned into a nasal drip. Went to doctor, he gave me medicine, and I recovered, but my cough remained. I got sick several more times but my cough never went away. It's a mucus cough, and I have to clear my throat regularly or it'll go hoarse. I puke regularly (PMS) and I cough out mucus sometimes. My doctor thinks it's asthma, but the inhalers are so expensive that I don't want to pay for it if it won't work. My voice has weakened a lot, and simple yelling can cause me to be very hoarse. Should I go back to my doctor and see if it's asthma or what else could be the cause?

Most definitely go to your doctor. If you need an inhaler tell your doctor you cannot afford it and he/she may be able to point you to a  program to help pay the costs. It may likely be asthma, which can be life threatening and nothing to triffle with or it could be something else, but you will not know until you see your doctor and comply with tests and treatments.

Your right to question whether you should seek help; you are not getting better and seeking help is appropriate.
