Whats wrong with my chest?

Two days ago I had a sudden onset of severe pain in my chest ,left to the sternum.I can say the pain is some where aroud the sixth rib, near to the sternum. I can't clearly differentiate the pain, whether it is muscular or in the bone. The pain didn't go away by itself and is persistent from two days.( I was expecting it to be Precordial catch syndrome, which is relieved in few seconds to few minutes and is very common) . The pain exacerbate by over inhaling or exhaling. The pain is more intense when trying to bend too forward or lying on my stomach. I have no pain in my jaw or anywhere in my left arm or shoulder. I am not feeling sick or fatigued. There is no sign of fever, cold or chill.I don't have constipation, diarrhea, or any other stomach upset or pain.I have no headache or dizziness. I am suffering from chronic sinusitis from two years. There is no swelling or change of colour on the location of pain. The pain don't exacerbate when I palpate the location of pain.At the time of onset I wasn't doing any exercise or any sternous physical activity. I was just standing when it started suddenly. I am very athletic guy , well you can say physically very active. I usually do intense workout for 2 hours with a little rest in between. I don't use heavy weights. For a month or so I have stopped training because of the exams and from the past one week I have been doing very little physical work because I have to stay in front of the computer and have to study as much as I can( exams *****).
I am 22 years old male. Have you guys any idea about what am I suffering from? The worst symptom is the pain when inhaling too deep. Oh God I can't even laugh because that also worsens the symptom. Please I need serious answers from someone with some knowledge, Thankyou!

Additional Details
I need to know the cause of the problem. It would be appreciated if you could also tell me the treatment. I used panadol and even tried brufen. In 24 hours therapy, both panadol and brufen were ineffective. Someone please tell me what can be the cause of my pain?

Hi
Thanks for keeping me posted!
It is difficult to comment on net. You seem to be having costochondritis like symptoms. Apply a local analgesic and heat to the area by a hot water bottle. Since the pain has decreased over time, costochondritis could be the culprit. You may not have typical tenderness over the joints of ribs and chest bone. Another possibility is fibromyalgia. No, non stop precordial catch syndrome is not possible.
Hope this helps. Take care!

Thanks for your guidance. Here is an additional information. I don't have shortness of breath, fever, cough, cold, chill, weight loss, rapid shallow breathing and yeah it didn't hurt my chest when I sneeze. So pleuritis is ruled out.
I never had chicken pox, no burning pain or sensitive skin, no blisters or rash.Shingles is ruled out.
No tachypnea, cough, hemoptysis, dyspnea, cyanosis, painful or swollen arm or leg, bloody sputum. I don't have any of those symptoms.Pulmonary embolism ruled out.
No chest pain radiating to the back, no chest pain unless I don't take very deep breath, no fever or cough or anxiety or fatigue, no pain in my left arm or shoulder or jaw,no hiccups or lightheadedness and no pain while swallowing food. Pericardits is ruled out.
No swelling or tenderness of the cartilage, no fever, no cold, no cough, no chill, no change in colour at the site of pain, no tenderness, no matter how hard I palpate. even punched my chest to see if it hurts but it don't unless I don't inhale or exhale too deep. Ruling out costochondritis.
No dehydration, no muscle overload, no magnesium or any other mineral deficiency(I drink a lot of milk and eat egg daily, sea food, green vegetables and chicken , they are the part of my weekly diet), no kidney disease, no low red blood cell count, haven't done any exercise for a month before the onset of the pain, no diabetes, no anemia , no atherosclerosis. No improvement with stretching(I stretched a lot in all the possible directions). Muscle spasm ruled out.
I didn't pulled any muscle in my chest beyond its capacity.Ruling out muscle pull.
I saw your profile. You seems like a very good doctor to me. Can you tell me the cause of this idiopathic pain?I am only 22, why would I have such kind of pain. Do they have something like non stop precordial catch syndrome. Yeah one more thing, it didn't hurt as bad as it was hurting two days ago(the pain is one fourth of what it was two days ago) and I haven't taken any brufen in the past 48 hours.Thank you so much!!!
(I don't want to visit any doctor right now becasue of trust issues.)

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Chest pain aggravated by laughing yawning and deep breathing goes more in favor of costochondritis, which causes pain and tenderness at points where your ribs attach to your breastbone.  The inflammation around the joint area gives sharp pain on taking a breath. This can also cause tenderness on pressing the area which pains. An orthopedic doctor can diagnose this for you. Generally there is no cause. However it can be due to infection, blow, injury, or fibromyalgia. It usually goes away on its own. Otherwise it can be treated with muscle relaxants, and non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs. It can also be muscle pull. Shingles can also start this way.
Pleuritis and Pulmonary embolism are other possibilities causing shortness of breath with chest pain. A CT scan of the chest can rule out both. Another possibility that can explain the pain is pericarditis. It causes chest pain aggravated by laughing yawning and deep breathing and also causes radiation of pain to arms. Again an EKG, heat echo and chest X-ray is required.
Consult your PCP and get this evaluated. Hope this helps. Take care!
