When to see a doctor?

Hi all,

3 weeks ago I came down w/ severe watery diarrhea and cramping, nausea/vomiting, fever etc. etc. and was diagnosed w/ gastroenteritis a few days later (apparently a "bug" was going around at the time and the doctor thought I likely has caught this).  Apparently I also had blood in  my urine (not visible to the eye) but didnt have a UTI and this symptom was dismissed.

It took over a week for most of the symptoms to disappear but I had the watery diarrhea up until about 4 days ago (only in the morning and it was not acompained by cramps) and some foods make me feel a little nauseous (I am NOT pregnant!).  I have been feeling very tired by the afternoon to the point and have only been able to run 7-8 miles a week instead of my usual 30+!  I have now started experiencing severe bloating and gas after meals (I am not eating anything differently than what I did before I got sick).  Its at the point where I actually feel nauseous and have to stop dead in my tracks due to pain from it.

Just curious as to whether these are standard complaints after a bout with gastroenteritis - e.g the tiredness, bloating/gas or if this signals something else that I should visit a doctor for.

Any input is appreciated.

thanks.

Did you get your stool tested and confirmed as viral not bacterial or giardia?

If it was definitely viral then yes your symptoms can still be consistant with what you see after a bout of tummy bug.  If it was bacterial or giardia you can also see what you are experiencing but you may need some medicine to clear it up fully.

Give it another few days then go back to the doctor if not cleared up completely.

Good luck.

Thanks for your advice.  A stool sample was never asked for - I was the 4th person that day to present with those symptoms so the assumption was it was a "stomach bug" that was presumably viral.  3 weeks w/ gastro symptoms feels like a really long time.
