I didnt do the MRI yet they tol me its on saturday , i called the lab 5 min's ago for my results and all of them came back negative exept clymedia i'll get the result 2 days from now .

So im still waiting on this one and doing the MRI .
I read in This site that herpes simplex can case abnormal lymphocyts and im hsv1 positive , do u think thi the case

My friend told me its not that high and its vary from site to another and different labs !!
He said ur immune system
Is good and 5100 whiye blood cells is such a very good # and the small count below defines it and the total Is around 100 which is my case !

So i have couple of questions for u laura

1- is my immune system good ?
2- if yes do u think i'd be test positive for hiv after 4 months ? They say 3 month is conclusive as long as i dun use drugs , have hep c , had organ transport or my immune system is already weak !!
3- i read in the web site u mentioned that leukemia can case high lymphocyts , they didnt mention cancer in general ?
4- i'll make an appointment with another dr to show him my blood work but after the MRI . Is that fine or u think i should move faster
5- what are my chances being infected with HIV ?
6- what are my chances with oral cancer

Ps. I'v been smoking for more than 10 yrs and im 28

Thanks

Did you solve your white tongue problem?

I am having a white tongue for 3 months now, no results with 2 fluconazole dosis (2 weeks). I am going next week to an infectologist (who is also an HIV specialist) and also a dermatologist. My symptoms started 4 months after a sexual contact (unprotected insertive oral sex, protected intecourse). It's now more than 7 months from that incident. Tested negative for HIV 3 times (the last test around the 4 months mark). I will probably repeat the HIV test. I will keep you updated as our stories are similar (though in my case condom didn't break)

How are you?

I have very similar problems as you:

-White tongue
-Bumps in the tongue (front part)

I have been diagnosed with oral thrush :(

Have you had an oral swab to confirm if you have oral thrush or not?

Just one correction:

Worldwide the window period for HIV is 3 months (or 12/13 weeks), not 6 months. Below the UK guidelines:

http://www.bashh.org/documents/2613

In France, the window period is even shorter (six weeks)

Hi,

I don't know if your immune system is good or not, your friend sounds more knowledgeable as he would also know you in person.. I would go back to the doctor to review your bloodwork and get a prescription for your mouth sores. My knowledge of lymphocytes are from medical websites. I don't have any idea of how 45 percent relates to the other numbers other than many sites list above 40 percent means you have an infection or cancer. The site I sent you may say leukemia, but other sites generally say cancer.

The chance it is oral cancer is very low, in the US, about 1 in every 100,000 people get oral cancer at your age. I guess it would depend on your lifestyle. People who drink and who don't eat many vegetables and fruits have been shown in medical trials to increase their risk of oral cancer. Are you thinking of quitting smoking? Even if you never get cancer, smokers have lung problems when they get older. The doctor can help you with that, they have nicotine patches like band-aids to help with the withdrawl. Maybe a positive can come out of this stressful time.

http://www.nidcr.nih.gov/DataStatistics/FindDataByTopic/OralCancer/OralCancerIncidence.htm

I also don't think you have HIV.  It's possible to be exposed to HIV and not get it. I would look up HIV statistics in the country you live in, it may help you feel better. I have heard of testing at 3 months. My doctor had recommended 6 months to be sure.  Hang in there, I'm sure it will be fine. Everyone of us risks HIV with our relations, so you're not alone. The Daily Mail has an article on a home kit test for HIV that has been developed. I don't think it is in drugstores yet, but it would be very useful when considering future partners.

I did read that when one first catches Herpes, it's common to have sores in the mouth, then in the future, only have a sore on the lip. I would just go with that thought for now, eat healthy, and try the L-Lysine.

I think you are taking all the right steps to figure out your health. Take it a day a time and use this opportunity to build your health.  28 is young, you have a full life ahead. I don't know how much more I can help you other than encouragement. Let me know how it all works out in two weeks after your MRI results and the doctor's appointment.

Take care, Laura

One more thing, the doctor who suggested vitamins for your herpes, I think she did this because herpes is a virus. They can prescribe anti-virals, but an anti-viral can have strong side effects, so I think with herpes, some may not prescribe it. I've researched anti-virals for my case, I have severe Fibromyalgia which they don't know what causes it, but some medical researchers believe it is a virus that attacked the nervous system. Anyways, I digress. One of the ways to fight a virus is vitamins, healthy eating, lots of Vitamin C, and getting plenty of rest. I would say if it's bugging you, then anti-virals are worth it. I regularly go to the university of Maryland medical site, they have great advice. They list some anti-virals and some creams to help. I would go back to a doctor, and say it doesn't seem to be getting better and it is really uncomfortable so they prescribe one of these anti-virals. I think it will be ok to take as you would only be taking them for a short time. For my case, I would have to be on them for months as an experiment!

You very welcome. I like giving people a hand as with my disease I've gone through a lot of doctors. I don't know if the quality is going down or they're just plain too busy to take the time.

I think your pharmacist friend may not be remembering his lymphocytes counts well. I read about your number on a couple of sites and they use the word 'abnormal' for anything 40 and over. Good for you for paying for blood work. Here's a site that describes it. I surfed in google for "lymphocytes high" if you want to find more articles. I think perhaps your friend was just trying to be helpful in not having you worry about things. I do hope it's not cancer.

http://www.medfriendly.com/lymphocyte.html

I don't know how many years you've been a smoker, but hopefully at your age that is not it. It's tricky because you can get night sweats from a fever from an infection, but also from cancer.  On wikipedia it mentions about lesions lasting longer than 2 weeks for oral cancer. If yours come and go in different places, then perhaps it's not cancer. I read that they do use MRI to diagnose oral cancer, to see its progression. Did that doctor call you with the results? if he didn't, maybe it was because it was negative. It would be worth calling his office to find out. I know here in Canada, they often don't call back if the result was negative. They only call  if they find something.

Good luck with the second blood test results!

Laura

p.s. I was reading last year about an amino acid L-Lysine which is supposed to shorten the length of time one is sick with Herpes. You would typically find it in a health food store, or where they sell vitamins and supplements. I don't know if it works, but some claim it does, plus some medical studies claim as well. Here's how to take it. I've taken amino acids before, no side effects, generally considered safe because most amino acids are found in food (l-lysine is found in food, an essential amino acid, that is your body needs it to stay healthy)

Lura u r such a great helper :)

And none of the drs ordered any test , i started to believe that they r useless :) the only one did was the ENT with the MRI

I went to another one Genral dr and he didnt ask me to Do any tests , i went to another dr just to talk to her about my positive herpes and show her my symptoms and she prescriped some vitamina and so !

So i decided to do these tests on my own though im covered with insurance but i paied coz it wasnt ordered by a dr !

So i went to the lab and ordered for my self blood picture , suger in blood and urine " random " , HCV , syphilis , chlamydia and gonorhea

I didnt recieve all of them yet only the hcv , suger and blood pic

I was talking to one of my friends he's a phrmacist and he said ur lymphocyts is not that high and ur white blood Cells are within the range so i asked him is that mean that my immune system is good ? He said yes
So i aske him dunt u think if im infected with HIV with my good immune system i'd test positive after 4 months ? He said yes so what do u think about that Laura ?

I'll keep u posted with the new results ,

Thanks again for ur great help :)

This site helps explain the test results...lymphocytes are elevated means  you have an infection. Lymphocytes are white blood cells that get produced to fight off an infection. Yours are abnormally high, so your doctor will be checking next for additional tests to determine what kind of infection you have. White blood cells also get high with cancer, but I doubt it's that as you are young and you got sick after a sexual encounter. The lymphocytes are made in your lymph glands, which you have all over your body. You will be able to feel the ones on either side of your neck just below the jawline, closer to your ears.  They'll feel like lumps of fat.

http://labtestsonline.org

Do you have another doctor's appointment? If not, I would make one to find out what kind of infection you have.  Once determined, he'll likely give you antibiotics to help fight the infection. If it is a virus, usually doctors just recommend bed rest and healthy eating like chicken soup. It's rare they'll prescribe an anti-viral unless you're very sickly or have HIV.  I also doubt it's is HIV because after someone becomes infected, symptoms can take up to 10 years to show as the virus replicates. It's likely something else like chlamydia or herpes. I would recommend looking up symptoms of STD (Sexually Transmitted Diseases) to see if they fit your symptoms. The blood tests are easy to take to test for STDs. The reason your doctor did an initial blood panel was to test your general health like red cell blood count.

Take care, Laura

I wanted to mention that i wasn't sure if the unknown girl and your girlfriend were the same person, i had thought perhaps she went from being unknown to becoming your gf. If not, then you'll really want to make sure you don't swap bodily fluids with your gf. You may give her an STD. But if you get the all clear on STDs, having sex with a strep throat is ok, uncomfortable though! It may also be useful to track down this unknown girl or if she's from a brother, the madam to talk to her about illness. it's important to stop the spread of STDs, and it could give you insight into your own illness.

It sounds like oral herpes. Since you tested positive for hsv1 - Human Simplex Virus 1, it's the safer one, normally does not re-occur, thankfully for when it's passed to the genital region.I would also ask to tested for syphillis as it's making a comeback in the UK.  Also, it takes 6 months after unprotected sex with an HIV infected person for your body to test positive on HIV, so these early tests will always show negative. Might want to save your money there.  So that's six months before any symptoms like mouth thrush show up, so it's more than likely herpes. If possible, I would ask your partner is she has had herpes or a cold sore on her mouth (active virus). Even if she's had them in the past, and when she met you, she had a tenderness tingling site where they occur on the lips, it means the virus is active. It has to be completely dry and flat like her lips for no virus.

If it is not related to your sex encounter, then it could be your strep coming back. We all have strep in our throat and it gets worse whenever we've been sick. When the body isn't strong enough to fight it off, then antibiotics are needed.  the yellowish black spot could be food getting stuck in your swollen tonsils. Some use a toothbrush to get it out as it can cause bad breath.  Gargling with warm salted water might help dislodge, too. Canker sores will disappear if you apply salt directly to them (stings a bit), but it works! Canker sores come out when you're sick.

With both strep and herpes, you can get a fever as it's your bodies way to fight off invading viruses. not everyone exposed to herpes gets it.

I highly doubt it's oral cancer. You may want to give up cigarettes though, they're nasty when it comes to health problems and eventually you'll suffer.  I used to think you can't give cancer to someone, but recent research shows passing Human papillomavirus (HPV) can cause oral cancer even on non-smokers. Again, since your symptoms occurred shortly after the encounter, it doesn't sound like the case. With Herpes, it can take the two weeks before sores erupt.

I would talk to your doctor about oral herpes. Maybe he's intense as he may be doing an MRI as the herpes can infect the brain. Maybe your mouth looks such a mess he wants to rule out any possibility of the virus affecting your brain to be thorough? Must be a good hospital as most treat without looking for exceptional cases.

best of luck and take, after you get treatment, your mouth will clear up in under 2 weeks. No kissing until the, eh!

Laura

Maybe candida? I had this a while back and the fatigue, white tongue, and canker sores fit the bill. Also started for me after unprotected intercourse. I would be a little surprised if it spread during a single session of sex though, usually it's repeated exposure that passes it. Any digestive problems?
