Why do my teeth still hurt?

by peakeachu4, Oct 29, 2009 09:07PM
I got about 6 fillings done on my teeth about 3-4 weeks ago and my teeth are still very sensitive and they hurt when I eat hard foods or even soft foods, cold food and drinks too. Should they still hurt or have I not taken it easy enough on my teeth, I have just never had sensitive teeth before? Please help, thanks

Hi
Welcome to the forum!
Sensitive and painful teeth are due to exposed root canals. This happens either when the protective layer or enamel is chipped or cracked and dentin is exposed or when the gums recede. This happens on brushing too hard, plaque build up or due to gum disease or gingivitis. Do discuss this with your dentist and get your teeth examined.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

Sometimes it takes the gums awhile to settle down from the trauma of the teeth being messed with.  It can take a very long time if you have fibromyalgia.  You might ask your dentist if there are any areas in your gums where your nerves are exposed.  They might recommend you take a little sensitive toothpaste and rub it on the area and leave it on after brushing your teeth.  They might recommend a fluoride treatment to try to seal the little holes in your gums where the nerve is exposed.  Don't be afraid to call and ask your dentist about this, since he should care about how you are doing after working on you.
