Yes, well bv can be cured by a variety of things. It is a lot about the balance of the vaginal Ph. So, if that worked for you that is great. I am a big believer in probiotics too. It does depend on how bad the infection is and what bacteria it is. Sometimes you can't heal bv by probiotics alone sometimes you can. Some UTI's you can heal by cranberry juice there are some that might not respond. Thanks for bringing that up.

I actually started having issues with bacterial vaginosis after using Cipro for chronic UTIs.
I found that taking a good probiotic specifically for vaginal health cured the BV without having to take a med for it.
The reason that the other poster could have been cured by cipro is that she may have had a Mycoplasma and it may have been sensitive to ciprofloxacin. But the standard treatment for bv is either metronidazole or Clindamycin. So you can try the cipro and see if it clears up but if it doesn't then if can take clindamycin I would then take probiotics after. Cipro can treat a lot of UTI's but not all. It depends on the bacteria that is causing the infection and how resistant it is. But you can try the Cipro if the bug is sensitive to it. They don't do culture for BV as a lot of the organisms don't grow well in culture so the do a molecular test (PCR) but that doesn't tell if the organism is sensitive to the drug. So, Cipro plus clindamycin would be the overall drug combo if you can't take metronidazole. But I would try Cipro first and perhaps you are "lucky " and have Mycoplasma too. If it doesn't work you can take the clindamycin. Alternatively, you can take clindamycin for the bv and drink a boat load of cranberry juice for the UTI and water of course. It will take longer to clear up the UTI but it should work. It did for me in a pinch. It just took a couple of extra days. Of course if you are diabetic you can't.
Hi, I can tell you that I had baterial vaginosis last year and only took cipro not the gel and everything was fine.. I've also took cipro for a uti..
