burning sensation, pins and needles after virus

I had what appeared to be a viral infection almost three weeks ago (started with sore throat, progressed to sinus infection, fever and chills also accompanied by a yeast infection). The illness started two weeks after I returned from a trip to Mexico where I had protected sex with someone I didn't have the sexual history for. The condom seemed to work fine, (I had my period after my return so I'm assuming it did) but after having these symptoms, now I'm worried.
I went to the ER with high fever a few days ago and the doctor there did bloodwork, urinalysis, and cultures. The blood work & urinalysis came back fine. He also did a thorough pelvic exam and everything appeared normal. No swelling in lymph nodes or pelvic pain, no gential (genital) sores of any kind, no rash, no vomiting or diarrhea. He said what I had was "probably viral" and sent me home.

The fever and chills have subsided, and the sinus infection seems to be resolved and I took an over the counter medication for what I thought was the yeast infection. The yeast infection has also cleared. However, now I am left with a burning, tingling, pins & needles like sensation all over which is mild during the day and severe at night, causing insomnia.

What could be causing this? Should I have more tests done in the coming weeks to determine if it could be an STD?

Post this in the neurology forum. It's possible you have an STD, but it's also possible you have a post-viral sensory neuropathy.
