burning snesation in stomach

Hi,

I have had a constant burning sensation in my stomach for the past 4 days. It doesn't make a difference if I eat or don't eat the constant pain is their. I have also felt dizzy and light headed and nausous...but have not vomitted. I have also felt extremely tired and been sleeping for the majority of the last two days. I was thinking originally it could have been excess acid in my stomach so took some antacid tablets but those haven't seemed to work. I haven't changed my diet so don't think it's food related.

Thanks for your help,

Joanne

Please see a doctor. It sounds like a bleeding ulcer to me.

It appears you may have separate symptoms for separate conditions. There are several digestive disorders that have overlapping symptoms. Gastritis is an inflammation of the stomach lining. People get this condition when they take pain relievers like Aleve, Advil, Motrin with just a sip of water. Directions on bottles of these pain relievers say to drink a glass of water with the pills. If not, the pills can settle on a spot in your stomach lining and burn a sore into the lining. Ulcers have the same symptoms, but is more severe that has caused an ulceration on the stomach lining. Hiatal hernia produces burning pain and pressure right under your rib case.

Over-the-counter medicines like Prilosec, Prevacid, Zantac and others can temporarily stop the burning. One tablet or capsule lasts 24 hours. You might try the smallest size of the mentioned medicines and see whether the burning pain disappear.

If you try one of the medicines and it works, you should be aware you may have a stomach problem that could require your visiting a Gastroenterologist for evaluation.

Your feeling of being tired and sleepy may be a second problem that needs addressing.

Good Luck.
