This typical of sciatica secondary to nerve compression in the lumbar area. Manipulating the hip area to release the nerve is nonsense.

You need to go to a good physical therapist who will work with you on a number of exercises. This will be the best money you have ever spent.

Sleep with a pillow between youe legs.

I urge you to go to the website of Dr. Jerome Groopman and read his essays on sciatic pain. He has two excellent books. "How Doctors Think" and "A second opinion".

Generally this pain is episodic and disappears after a while, then reappears. Ask your physician for a transdermal lidocaine patch, which should not be worn for more than 12 hours. Also ask about prescribing what is known as a TENS device, which is battery operates and often completely relieves sciatica pain.

Avoid lifting anything for a while and get an inflatable cushion to sit on when riding in a car or bus. The up-and-down motion will agravate the condition.
