child has joint pain, abd pain, and light rash

I have a 7 year old daughter who broke out in a rash a few days ago around her neck and on her torso.  I suspected an allergic reaction to something and treated it with Benadryl.  The rash has GREATLY improved, but is still slightly visible.  Now, for the past two mornings she has woken up with wrist joint pain, ankle joint pain, and lower abdominal pain - which all goes away within half an hour after a dose of motrin. I am getting increasingly concerned that this is all related and may be more than an allergic reaction.

My son was taken off all dairy, wheat and any processed foods he was only allowed to have meat(not processes), fresh fruit and fresh vegetable.  He could have goats milk ,goats cheese, rice cakes and eggs.  I could use no flour so for bread it was rice bread no chips or treats or candy.  After being on this diet he for only a few weeks he started to feel alot better.  After about 3 months he was allowed to try all the others foods but it had to be done one at a time over a 3 day period to see if there was any change. I did not want my son taking any drugs that were aspirin base because this can be very dangerous for childern also.  Hope this helps your friends daughter because it sure helped my son he is a healthy and has been none stop in baseball, hockey and every other sport without a joint pain.

My doctors never put me on any special diet for my JRA.  But I was diagnosed in 1976, they may not have known about such preventions back then.  I had several surgeries. I was at Duke and Lynx Baker hospital in NC.  I thought it was interesting when years later, I found out that video recordings made of me and my progress over the years, were being used as a teaching tool at Duke.

I would be interested in finding out about your dietary changes due to JRA.  My best friends daughter is 12, and was dx 2 years ago.  She is having a very hard time, has frequent flare ups, and her mom won't even consider anything other than standard medicine.  Couldn't she continue her medical protocol and still make the dietary changes?  Maybe she would see improvement.  Any advice would be great-

This sounds like my son when he was 3 years old he started having high fevers in the middle of the night and in the morning he would not walk only crawl and said his legs and little fingers hurt.  After taking him to the doctor and having bloodwork done it was confirmed it was JRA and his levels were very high after several different drugs and months later I finally to him to a naturopathic and he had me to take him off certain foods and re-introduce his foods again like when he was an infant.  Within months his blood levels were fine he felt great and that was 12 years ago and has never had a flare up again.

This sounds to me like it might be JRA - Junior Rhuematoid Arthritis. Look up info on the internet and if your daughter sounds like she may be experiencing symptoms of JRA have her referred to a specialist. I have heard that some doctors don't really know how to diagnose this and don't really know what to look for.  Hope your daughter is ok. :-) If it is JRA its not as bad as it first sounds. I met a little girl diagnosed with JRA when my son was in hospital - she has been doing fine. :-)

THANKS SO MUCH FOR ALL THE REPLIES!!!! I did some searching yesterday and found out all of these symptoms could be due to malnutrition.  My seven year old has huge problems eating correctly (vegetables and such) she is also very skinny and short for her age - as I was when I was her age.  I have begun (as of yesterday) giving her pedia sure and a childrens multi-vitamin.  This morning she woke up with no pain.  Maybe this was the problem, so I am going to continue the pedia sure and multi-vitamin and we will also be working on her vegetable intake whether she likes it or not!!!lol Thanks again for your input.

I agree with BundyBlue.  I am almost 32 and was diagnosed with JRA at age 2.   It started when I fell off of a top bunk bed and hurt my knee.  At first, my parents' just thought it was a sprain, but over time it didn't get any better, only worse.  They swelling grew. Within a week, I had a rash and joint pain.  Within 6 months, I could no longer walk anymore.  It all just escalated from there.

Only Mom knows. If she is normal & back to reg. play in 1/2 hr
after Motrin, may be stress/allergy/back to school anxiety?
If very serious, abdominal pain wouldn't go away in 1/2 hr.
Kids that age like to see Mom fuss. If only once a day then fine
I'd wait. On the other hand, you may not rest till the Dr. says
something. Rash could even be from a new laundry product or
ck. what time of day it happens. Gd-luck.

You need to take your child to a clinic..something.
Strep throat causes a rash, and abdominal pain.  Additionally, if fever is present, it can cause an overall achiness that could attribute to the joint pain.
Sometimes, the only symptom my kids have with strep is upset stomach and rash.
