chronic hives and liver pain

In November 09 I got my first itchy spot.  It was gone the next morning.  I didn't get another one until Feb 2010.  I continued to get one or two hives of random shapes in random places at random times.  Sometimes a day or two apart other times months in between.  They started to be more frequent and worse and more and more hives.  Jan. 14, 2011 I was covered with hives. I went to a doctor and all he told me was that I had chronic hives.  All I could think was "duh, I already knew that".  He also did some blood work which only showed that I was a bit anemic.  Since then I haven't thought of them as chronic but continuous.  I have a difficult time falling asleep because I itch all over but mostly on my calves and feet.  I can sleep for a few hours but then wake up itchy again.  In the mornings my feet feel swollen and sore to walk on.  I sometimes have joint pain.  Recently, I have experienced liver pain and some weight gain.

I'm just wondering if anyone has experienced these same symptoms?  Any advice?

Thanks, Julie

I have chronic hives also. I would get them when the temp around me would change dramatically.. ie : when i would get out of the hot shower and the bathroom is cold. or walking in and out of air conditioning in the summer. But then i started getting them all the time and i couldn't figure out why.  Didnt do anything different or change and soap lotion perfume or laundry detergent. The doc prescribed 30 days of Zyrtec and my hives went away within 24 hours. after 30 days was up a week later they came back. so now i'm on a full prescription for them.  i finally also figured out what was trigering my hives. (my next door neighbor had got a new puppy a few days before my hives started and it stayed out in the yard next to my house )

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Liver and gall bladder disorders and H pylori infection of the gut can cause hives. Hence it is important to rule these out. They can also be due to allergens, such as drugs, foods, insect bites, inhaled substances, in response to sunlight, cold, heat, stress, exercise, or a viral infection. Other common allergens are pollen, mold, dust, pet dander, or cosmetics. Since you experienced an itch, just go over these possibilities in your mind. Something may strike you.
Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care!

Hello Julie,

I don't know if this will be any help but here goes, I never got hives but I got icthy and tingling feeling with my liver pain. The liver does not do what u think the liver does, does not give off pain it can be inflammed causing pressure which will cause pain best to ask your doc for liver function test to see if there is and abnormallities as the joint pain might have something to do with it as well!

Regards Dave,
