difficulty with coordination and walking

I am a 45 year old male. About 12 years ago i had an episode after a bad flue - (fever and headaches ) where i ended up being hospitalised because of severe difficulty in keeping my balance, i was walking like a drunk. My balance got even worse in hospital - i couldnt walk unassisted, my coordination started to get worse. The neurologist treated me with steriods. Over a period of 3 months i gradually improved. Some time later after i recovered i was informed that i had epstein barr virus.

I dont feel that i ever really fully recovered - i feel that my balance is a tiny bit off, hardly noticeable. I am still a good tenis player.

For the last 6 weeks i have been sick again. All my symptoms are verry similar to before, but not nearly as bad as before. The build up to the balance problem was just as before (fever and headaches, sickness in the stomache, muscle pain in the lower back). Then as before all those symptoms went away only to be replaced by this dizzy feeling. Its not nearly as bad as before but im worried as to whats going on

I have seen a couple of doctors who have told me that i probably just need to relax a bit and get plenty of rest.

I think that I have got the same thing i had before - Epstein Barr.

Do you think it is possible that Epstein Barr could effect me acutely again after all this time ?

Could you suggest any treatment ? or ideas to stop it causing problems for me again.

Thank you very much

i wanted to know if it is possible for the epstein barr virus (that made me loose my balance, 10 years ago ) could reactivate and cause an acute reacurance. Faz

There are some very sophisticated blood tests which can identify antibodies in your blood. Long story short - - - check into IVIG treatment and whether it could help - it can't hurt. In case you have trouble finding good info there is a National Home Infusion Association in Alexandria, VA (just outside of DC). Look them up and give them a call - they are helpful and can direct you to who provides this treatment in the area and so on. I would imagine if your doctor knows about it he would have mentioned it by now. Let me know how you do - Good luck.
