Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Chronic sore throats can be allergic, viral or bacterial in origin. Many viral conditions like EBV (glandular fever) behave in this way with recurrent respiratory infections. Many parasitic infestations and worms increase the eosinophil counts in the blood and thus cause an increased risk of upper respiratory infections.
Is there is no fever then chances of allergic reaction is more. Common allergens causing these symptoms are pollen, mold, dust, pet dander. Streptoccocal infection is the most common bacterial infection and can cause nasal symptoms too. Indoor exposure to black mold can cause upper respiratory tract symptoms such as sore throat and cough with or without wheeze in otherwise healthy people.
A comprehensive investigation including CBC, throat swab, allergic tests etc is required keeping all the points in mind.
Meanwhile try deep breathing exercise and steam inhalation. Over the counter antihistamines, decongestants, non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs all help. Steam inhalation, drinking hot fluids and soups, warm lemonade, gargling with warm saline water are all very helpful. Sometimes Eustachian tube (tube connecting ear to throat) block can cause these pressure symptoms. Try valsalva maneuver (take a deep breath and blow while pinching your nostrils shut and closing your mouth). This will help clear the secretions in the tube that connects the back of your throat with your ear.
Please consult your PCP.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
It COULD be allergies. Though, it sounds like a bad flu. Have you been around someone with swine flu? Have you been to a doctor?
You may have allergies, but you also may have an infection where you need some antibiotic. A sinus infection can give a feeling of fullness and headache. You'll want to go in and get checked by a doctor- if not today, tomorrow at the latest! They should take a look at your throat and if they see anything that needs culturing, they should do that. Meanwhile, you need to be drinking a lot and try drinking hot water with honey and lemon for your throat & suck on some zinc lozenges. Eat some hot chicken noodle soup (or one you like) and breath the hot vapors. Take a hot shower while sitting on a shower chair or tub floor and breath in the vapors. You'll want to sit because of the dizziness. I'm sorry you are feeling so miserable! You might also see if putting a moist heat pack on your head helps any. And some over the counter decongestants might be tried as well until you can get to your doctor.
