by shell482, Apr 07, 2009 09:48AM
mu husband for the past several days has been off balance talking out of his head, falling asleep anywhere, his whole demeanor has changed. he is talking almost like a litle kid, he is having a hard time urnating and his urine is dark brown. we went to the emerg. room and they acted like nothing was wrong wiht him . they did not neven care. he has high blood pressure and blood pessure was 132/86. that is good for him. it is very hard for me to get him to go to a doctor and the hospitol did that. i think i should just call an ambulance because the kids and i are really wooried about him. what does this sound like what he is doing . do yo think i should call an ambulance   thank you very much

Hi
Thanks for writing to the forum!
Causes of dark urine or brown urine  and difficulty in  urinating can be due to:
1. Cystitis
2. Medullary Sponge Kidney
3. Porphyria
4. Prostate Cancer
5. Prostatitis
6. Urinary tract infections

However since his urinary problems are also accompanied by neurological problems there are chances he is suffering from uremic encephalopathy. Yes, call the ambulance and consult a nephrologist ASAP. You can read more about this on: http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/1135651-overview
• “Uremic encephalopathy (UE) is a consequence of renal failure (RF).
• Symptoms begin insidiously and are often noticed not by the patients but by their family members or caregivers.
• In many cases, impairment of the nervous system provides the first indication of metabolic derangements.
• Symptoms may progress slowly or rapidly.
• Changes in sensorium include loss of memory, impaired concentration, depression, delusions, lethargy, irritability, fatigue, insomnia, psychosis, stupor, catatonia, and coma.
• Patients may complain of slurred speech, pruritus, muscle twitches, or restless legs.”
It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage.  Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
