I understand why you went to the ER and how you feel about the Doc. there, it pisses you off to be treated like a child and the Doc. was rude, obviously he didn't know exactly what it was but he was right that it wasn't a medical emergency, there was nothing affecting the vital functions.

I had a Doc. treating me worse than that at the ER and my conditions were really bad but not life threatening and eventually I followed his directions he was right with what concerned his specialty.

Maybe you could contact the local University hospital , Prophylaxis center or something and see if they know what bug it could have been.

also for extra safety see a Doctor and do complete blood count, ESR and liver function (serology) see if there's indirect signs of an infection.

Don't let one jerk at an ER discourage you from seeking help in the future!  You were right to take him in.  The doctor was wrong for dismissing you.

I am really surprised he didn't prescribe some antibiotics, or at least recommend some antihistamines if he believed it was an allergic reaction.

Tell your hubby to keep soaking it in epsom salts until it is mostly recovered.  That will help it heal faster.

I'm so sorry you were treated so badly. I have had that happen to me as well and it really hurts. Don't let one jerk doctor who thinks he is God make you feel you didn't do the right thing. I'm glad if it is getting better. I don't think it would be if he had been bitten by a brown recluse spider. If the epson salts works keep that up. If you see any infection (the wound would get hot, pain and possible pus or red streaks) go to a GP they will take you in.

Well, thank you for all of your help with this. I did end up taking him to an ER @ a county hospital nearby. Was told by the  attending physician that this was NOT an emergency nor was it even close to being important enough for him to waste his time on; even though we were told to take him there by nurses & an EMT. BTW, he only glanced at it. Beings that my husband is Type2 Diabetic really concerned me  to begin with, but to be treated like this from a so-called professional really pisses me off.
So, as of today, after soaking it everyday in epsom salt, his finger is a bit better. Still not sure what it was, but I am very reluctant to take him to any dr now. He says the feeling is starting to come back some but is very tender. thank you for all your help & concern.

This is serious! A finger should not turn this color unless bruised - would recommend to seek a physician to see the finger today....

Could it be a brown recluse spider bite?

I would go to the ER as it sounds like it could be a brown recluse spider bite. If not they can see if it is infected or Xray to see if it is broken. You could go to your GP if you can get in today.
