Hi Merkrath. I just spotted your posting and I can tell you that there is nothing "retarded" about you, honey. Who told you this and why was it kept from you for so long? I think you should make an appointment with your doctor. Don't tell anyone about it. Talk it over with him/her and ask to be referred to a psychologist for an evaluation. This way you will learn the truth as well as where your potential lies so that you can plan a career or a hobby or both that will allow you to use your talent and creativity. College isn't for everyone. It sure wasn't for me.. I wasn't a good student but now I am a pretty good florist. Please post again and let us know how you are doing. And don't forget - you sound like a bright, inquisitive girl and you will have a bright future. All you need is the right people to guide you on your path. Good luck and stay in touch.  : ) xxx

It's your life & no one can tell how far a brain can go when it
is challenged. Retarded is an ugly word & you should demand to
have respect & enough intelligence to read your diagnosis if
this is what you want. Sometimes brain cells just mature & stay
at a certain level. People use an age or number like you won't
be able to function past 15. My nephew is a wonderful smart
guy that was just born slow. Most of his life I worked with him
to challenge his learning skills. He's just like me, at his age
of 25. We're both good at math & lousy at history. Ask for your
cause. Injury, accident, genetic? I've met smart teens & dense
ones. Ask if you are expected to live at home the rest of your
life or need a care person? If you have a problem, you should
carry an ID of the condition in case of any future health
issues. Yes, our brains can stop learning some things but
knowledge allows us to adapt. You need the knowledge of your
problem. Are you driving a car & working? My grandfather has
age problems & can't be re-taught how to drive. Don't believe
everything you are told. Challenge your brain with new things
regularly. They said Einstein was nuts! Maybe he went on to
prove everyone wrong on purpose?

the only explanation that i have gotten that i can understand is that my brain is stuck somewhere in my past... they say around when i was 15 is when it happened and i really dont know what to do i mean this is hella depressing and it makes me mad and very depressed at the same time cause im 22 and this has just now been brought to my attention

Hi Merkrath

Who told you this? It seems to me by the level of your writing and by your questioning that you are much more mature than you have been given credit for.  Well I tried college too and years later I tried other extra exams at night, I still get much more pleasure out of sitting under a tree reading, or tending to plants in the garden.  We all have our strengths and weaknesses, I'm no professional, but the fact that you are questioning this diagnosis means to me that you have lots to offer.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having difficulty.  We need a little more information, like an actual diagnosis name, or other symptoms, etc.  Remember, we are not doctors, just regular people who have experienced lots of different things.  You will find comapassion and great advice here.  Just try to be a little more specific.
