Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
If you have a history of unprotected sex with a high risk partner then yes it could be HIV and you need to follow this up and get complete clearance at 3 months and 6 months after initial testing. Otherwise the symptoms you are having can be seen in IBS, Croh’s, and malabsorption syndromes.
Another possibility is fibromyalgia. Apart from fibromyalgia multiple joint pain is seen in hypothyroidism, low Vitamin D levels, Low Vit B12 levels, anemia, Hasimotos thyroiditis, gout (can sometimes cause multiple joint pain), rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, SLE, electrolyte disturbance particularly those involving calcium and magnesium, parathyroid gland problems, chondrocalcinosis and chronic fatigue syndrome. Please talk to your doctor regarding these and get yourself examined accordingly. Take care!

Hello again I'm going to respond to your post and then answer your questions,

Yes, I agree unprotected sex was not necessarily the wisest decision to make, but it happened and nothing can change that.    It DOES NOT mean your are HIV+ like I told you previously.  Even if your GF is HIV+, does not mean that the 1 time you had unprotected sex will cause you to be. It is also less like for a male to contract it from a female than the other way around.  Is she HIV+?

You said your symptoms disappear when you are busy doing other tasks and, have your mind off the possibility of being HIV+.  It is possible that you are causing yourself to be so stressed over what most likely has not occurred, that you are making yourself sick.  Stress can cause Pain, Stomach Issues, and can cause the body to have some really weird symptoms.

You really should get tested for HIV, with your fears being so great, and give yourself the answer to your question.   You can have the test done at your local Health Dept, anonymously and at little to no cost to you.    I suspect you most likely ARE NOT HIV+, but only a test can determine it for sure, relief your stress, and more than likely relief your symptoms, as well.

To answer your other questions

The exact cause of IBS is really unknown .  It is suspected to possibly be related to low or inadequate muscle movement in the intestines, or follows an infection of the intestines.

Early detection of HIV is important because of the treatments that are available today.  The sooner you start receiving treatment the better your chances of living a relatively "normal" life of not developing full blown AIDS are.

There is no set time to feel the symptoms because everybody's bodies are different and react to the Virus differently.

If someone who has HIV does not receive the proper treatment necessary, it will most likely shorten their life significantly, but with proper treatment it is very likely a person can live out their full life with very little limitations.

I Hope This Helps.  Please get tested soon.  Good Luck, and God Bless  Brenda

Hello, The symptoms you are describing can be related to many different conditions, and does not necessarily mean that you are HIV+.  It is impossible to say exactly what is the cause of your particular symptoms, you will need labs and testing from your physician to determine that.    Stress/Anxiety Can cause you to have a lot of the symptoms you described such as lose of appetite, stomach problems, and muscle/joint pain but only your doctor can determine for sure.

I recommend seeing your doctor to get the necessary labs and tests needed to determine the cause of Your symptoms, so you can begin treatment and be headed for the road to recovery.  If there is a reason you suspect you could be HIV+, (which apparently there is or you wouldn't have mentioned it as a possibility) please inform your doctor and get tested for that as well when you go to help relieve your fears.  Also, if your HIV test is negative PLEASE use necessary precautions like condoms etc in the future to prevent having to stress over this almost completely preventable disease in the future.  Only YOU can keep YOU Safe.  I Hope This Helps and God Bless!
