Ok, so for a long time, my jaw has been popping. It pops mainly when I'm eating. But lately it has become much worse. It pops when I eat, talk, laugh, anything I do! I'm in the marching band at school, and we marched our halftime show then went back into the stands. Well when we got there I noticed my jaw would only open so far and if I tried to open it any further it hurt really bad, and if I really tried to get it open it would pop and hurt like the dickens!! So my jaw was pretty much locked almost shut. I really want to get rid of it and I don't know how. Right now I just have a slight headache from my aching jaw. Everyone says try not to pop it, but I can't help it. No matter what side I chew my food on it pops. Anything I do with my mouth makes it pop. So any advice on how to get rid of it would be greatly appreciated!!!
thanks.

Have you had your wisdom teeth out? Sometimes they can cause an infection and cause these symptoms if you haven't had them out. Have you had Lock Jaw before?

I dont know anything about this, sounds to me that your jaw may be "dislocated" if that is possible,  even possible broken, and your not realizing it.  The only reason I am responding is that i hit someone at work one time, long ago, for weeks he complained of jaw pain and problems like yours, until finally he got it x rayed, it indeed had been broke, but it started to heal, they had to re break it to set it........thats an ouch I wouldnt want, good luck

Hi know this is a old post but wanted to answers anyway.

The symptoms you talk of are simular to what iv suffered for on and off since i had my teeth out two years ago (though i prob had it and didnt realise).

It sounds like TMJ syndrome or for long temporomandibular joint syndrome if you do a internet search your come with with tons of help and info about the condition you can get meds to help it as it can be a very painfull condition but also a common one.

Hope this helps.

It sounds like you have what I have--TMJ.  If you don't take care of this it will become more painful...  You should go to a dentist to find out for sure.  If you do have TMJ, you should seek a TMJ specialist.  I was told to go to UCLA or USC in California but you can find one in your area.  It sounds like your Jaws have to be dislocated.  For the short term, accupunture helps. I never thought that I would go to one but it helps with the pain.  Also, I was told to take a dispsable cup and fill it with water and freeze it.  Then rub my jaws in a circular motion, it helps too, but not as much as the accupuncture.  I was also advised  to stop singing until my jaws were fixed or it could cause further harm to them.  Keep that in mind when you open wide.   By the way, you have NO control over the poping, it happens due to the dislocation.   I hope this helps you, Tee503
