injury to the knee

swelling in the knee, hot to touch and throb with pain.

Rest lay out on yourcouch with your foot on you pillow and one under your knee
Ice get an ice pack on tour knee
Compress take the ice pack and compress it to your knee with a towel
Elevate pillow under knee

Yup. Doctornee is on the money, as usual.

Don't let this go.  My vote is to head for the ER.

They generally insert a needle into the joint to withdraw fluid and examine it for blood. The needle looks awfully big, but the procedure is not very painful. Just look at the other side of the room.

A scan will determine if there is structural damage, or a torn miniscus.

A knee swelling that is hot to touch and throbs with pain can be due to bursitis, injury, abscess or bleeding into the joint. It can also be due to fracture. Please consult an orthopedic specialist immediately or rush to ER. An X-ray of the joint should be taken immediately, and maybe a CT scan of the joint will be required.
