knot on sternum

I had a hard fall forward and hit my chest and now, 2 weeks later, I have a knot on my chest and dull pain when breathing or exercising.  The swollen part seems to be on the sternum bone right between my breasts and when I try to sleep on my side it wakes me up with pain.  What kind of doctor should I go to....I did go and have 2 x-rays done at the hospital and apparently they saw nothing, although they were mainly of my shoulder.

This discussion is related to Worsening pain with xiphoid process.

Your regular physician should be able to help you.  I am not sure if you have a hematoma on your sternum related to the fall.  Is the area bruised?
