low hematocrit

My mother has had a cold for about 2 months. In these 2 months she has also had hives, a chesty cough, recurrent low grade fever and fatigue.
She has tried 3 different types of antbiotics, nose sprays, asthma sprays and cough mixture.
She has had 3 lots of blood tests all normal (she has Thelassimia Minor) except for a continual decline in Hematocrit.
36,30,28 and now 24.Her stools showed no traces of blood and no blood in urine.
Doctors have said that they cant find anything. Obviously there is something wrong.
Please help.

my mother is still not well.
Doctors are waiting for results of a Bone Marrow Biopsy.
I have been told they may be looking for Mylodisplastic Disorder.
Please tell me what this is exactly, what are the symptoms and what is the treatment.

Thank you.

Thankyou for your response.
My mother is 66y.o and is currently in Greece in a hospital in Athens and I am in Australia. The Greek doctors have performed a number of blood tests, urine tests, stool tests and even an MRI and have found everything to be normal. However, her hematocrit continues to fall, she still has a low grade fever, fatigue and a body rash that comes and goes.

Hi,

Low levels of hematocrit levels indicate anemia. This can occur due to inadequate intake of iron, heavy bleeding during menstruation, and patients with chronic kidney disease who no longer secrete sufficient amounts of erythropoietin, which stimulates RBC production in the bone marrow.
Please discuss these possibilities with your doctor. Do keep us posted!
