mass found behind left eye

my friend has had a cat scan and the results came back that he has a mass behind his left eye, what does that mean?

Wow, That is pretty rare. I saw 2 cases in 15 years in the field.
A mass can be just fat (like a cyst) I believe, or it can be a tumor that is cancer, or a tumor that is not "cancer". They would send him to an Ophthalmologist, to have Visual Fields, and other exams to determine if it is interfering with his vision. Probably do some form of biopsy, or remove it.  This is a definite COOPERATE WITH YOUR DOCTOR SITUATION. Being stressed doesn't help, but it sounds like he is being helped. Take it from here...

Can your friend see with that eye?  If no then it might be optic neuritis.Optic neuritis is inflammation of the optic nerve. It may cause
sudden, reduced vision in the affected eye.

A mass behind the eye or retro-orbital mass can be due to a mass in the eye or pituitary mass due to blood vessel etc. Please consult a neurologist with the CT scan report. Take care!
