memory loss and fatigue

I am a 33 year old mother of 3.  For the past 3 years I have been experiencing fatigue and slight memory loss.  Today was very scary for me.  I was eating a bowl of oatmeal (just like I do every morning) and for the life of me I could not remember what the name of what i was eating was called?????  It took about 2 minutes before the name came to me.  I feel like I am going crazy.
I am ashamed that this is happening to me?  Whats wrong with me?

Wow. I am sorry to hear this but I am glad that it will get better in time.

Did they say how long you had it?

I know I have not been on in a while.
A lot has happened since my last post.
My symptoms starting getting pretty bad and after I started the new meds the neurologist put me on i assumed that was what was causing the new and worse symptoms.  I suffered at home for a week until my primary Dr. called me into his office.  Once i went to see my primary he admitted me into the hospital and and confirmed I hate late stage lyme disease.  Apparently my blood work from the neurologist and the hospital along with a spinal tap confirmed this all. I was in the hospital for a week and they sent me home with a heckmen line in my chest so i can receive IV antibiotics.  I currently am still home with the heckmen trying my hardest to make the best of this disease.  I have to say some days I just want to cry.  The memory loss has become more frequent.  I think that's the hardest part for me.  But I am hopeful that this will all get better in time.

Thanx :)

My kids are all teens. I wish I could say I have been more stressed or running around more than usual but the truth is I have even stopped working to see if that helps with the headaches and fatigue.  I am just praying the neurologist finds out what's going on.

I too suffer from complicated Migraines. I have had MRI's and CT scans done on my brain to test for anything unusual or MS but nothing.  I also have Chronic Fatigue syndrome and Fibromyalgia.

My memory has gotten a lot better now that my daughter is 7 and I am getting more sleep then before.

Its good to hear that you are doing better :)

I want to thank u all for your help.

Well I have to say it scared the life out of me!  I went to my primary on Tuesday and he ordered lots of blood work and an MRI.  He also sent me to a Neurologist.  The Neurologist ordered more blood work and has set me up for an appointment for an EEG in Dec.  The Neurologist seems to be very concerned considering my medical history.  I have suffered from migraines for years and have some other health issues from the past.  She actually made me feel a little better (thought I was loosing my marbles).  She gave me some medications that actually seem to help my migraines already!!   So far I have not had another episode of forgetting what something is or is called or a lapse in time and I pray to God that never ever happens again.. ITS SCARY!!!!!

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
I think that there is a possibility that you have a sleep problem and nothing more serious. Please consult a sleep specialist to start with. Certain types of epilepsies and seizures too cause short term memory loss along with tiredness or fatigue. Chronic infections too are known to precipitate memory loss. For this you can try yoga and meditation. Disorders of the hypothalamus, chronic fatigue syndrome and
psychiatric disorders like depression too cause similar symptoms.
If all brain related causes (transient ischemic attack, disorders of hypothalamus, dementia and multiple sclerosis, head injury etc) are ruled out then Vit B12 deficiency, chronic fatigue syndrome, sleep disorders (by sleep studies), depression, and certain types of seizures (where memory loss is the predominant symptom) should be investigated for as the cause of memory loss. Apart from sleep studies, EEG, you may need cognitive tests like mini-mental state examination (MMSE) or Folstein test. Please consult a neuropsychiatrist. Hope this helps. Take care!

Do you often forget names, places or incidents? Do you stop mid sentence in conversations (for anywhere from 10 sec to 2 min) to recall a key point, such as a person's name? Do you forget where you park the car? And do you honestly feel this is not normal? If so then I urge you to see a neuropsychologist who will diagnose if you have any cognitive dysfunction and where EXACTLY that dysfunction is.

The neuropsychologist will run a battery of tests to confirm or deny your memory failure.

Pls have your recent medical history written down (as comprehensively as you can) to aid him/her in the diagnosis. That way you will not waste the appointment on how you got to see him/her BUT will spend the time testing your cognition.

I think after you have a child they take everything out of you. I remember after having my daughter I was talking to someone and I felt as though I couldnt remember the conversation I was having and it didnt make sense the words that were coming out.  It has gotten better now that my daughter is 7 but I have to tell you for some time I felt that something was wrong with me.

Maybe you are just extremely overtired.
