I have a mild pain under my arm. My doctor says this is a typical ulmar nerve problem caused by sleeping with my arm under my head for years, and I have slept this way for years. When on my side sleeping it feels like there is a wad of something in my arm pit. Per doctor's instruction, I am not sleeping with my arm under my head. Sleeping is very difficult due to the pain.
***** Is this a standard ulmar nerve problem as my doctor has determined?
Per my education on the web, I notice that the ulmar nerve pinch usually effects the little and ring finger. In my case, these fingers are not numb at all, and the numbness extends well above the elbow makes me suspect this may not be an ulmar (funny bone) nerve problem. The pain in my arm pit remains unexplained. I would like conformation that my doctor has come to the correct conclusion. I would like my doubts removed. My doctor believes that sleeping with my arms straight will eventually cure the problem.
For the last two years, I have done weight work to develope my lat mussels. I pull down 100 pounds with a wide grip and with a narrow grip on the bar doing three sets of 10 pull downs. The mussels have grown in size. Strengthening the large mussels has also strengthend the tiny mussels in my back. Strrenghthening these lat mussles has resolved back problems that I used to have. However, when I reach high (at full extention) to pull down the weight I felt a pain in my arm pit. It is the same pain I am feeling constantly now. I have stopped these exercises for the last three weeks but the pain is still with me. I tell the doctor about this exercising and he is not interested. Appparently, my doctor thinks my two years of exercising has nothing to do with my pain or numbness. Since I know the pain I felt at extention while exercising is the same pain I continuously feel in my arm pit now, I think there is a problem inside my arm pit. Of note, my doctor never looked at or touched my arm pit. I could have a big lump, bruse, or spider bit under there and he would not know it. Soaking my arm pit in a warm bath helps deminish the pain.
