Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
The clue to right treatment is right diagnosis. First consult an ENT to rule out temporal arteritis, internal ear infection, TMJ and a dentist to rule out tooth decay. If all these problems are ruled out then it could be glaucoma, near and far sightedness and sinusitis. Another possibility is migraine triggered by loud noise. Tension headaches due to stress too affect the temple area.
It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Do consult your doctor. Take care!
Trigeminal neuralgia - it's a painful inflammation of the trigeminal nerve. It typically affects older adults, and there isn't a known cause....
It's strange - it can cause really sharp shooting pains that lasts only a few seconds, and can be triggered by the oddest things. Some people only need to be lightly touched on the areas of the face it ennervates, while other people only have issues with extreme heat fluctuations. I met someone not too long ago that described only ever having issues when ICE specifically touched his face. Very weird. It can ALSO be triggered by sounds.... and some people even have issues brushing their teeth.
Touch base with your doctor so he can rule out other causes, but this is definitely the most likely. There are some medications that can help (antiepileptics, migraine meds and some antidepressants), and in extreme cases there may be surgical options.
Good luck and keep us posted!
