Can you tell me how high your white count was? It sounds like an infection. Do you have a fever and/or swollen lymph nodes? Did they do a manual count where they looked at your red and white blood cell morphology? I need more information.
thanks,

Hi! I'm sorry to hear you're not feeling well...
I'll assume you're not on any medication that would elevate your levels, anything like that.
Leukocytosis [raised white count] can be due to anything and everything. In your body you have different types of white cells.
Neutrophils
Lymphocytes
Monocytes
Basophils
Eosinophils
Each one handles different things; neutrophilia- bacterial infection/ cancer;  lymphocytosis- viral/protozon infections, some cancer; Eosinophilia- allergies, reaction to medicine, etc
Sorry for the technical explanation! But depending on which one is elevated, he should be guided or pointed to a "cause".
If he only did a cbc [complete blood count], you can try going to a hematologist [blood dr] they will run specialized tests to find a more accurate collection of information to help put things together. [Spinal tap, check other levels in your body].
A short story, I was taking a medicine that caused bleeding/bruising problems. My platelets were fine, normal range. However, I had to see a hematologist, and he had to test me for bleeding/clotting disorders. Reason being- it can be the size of the platelet, how many platelets per sq [something], they have to be mature cells, how they clot, how long it takes, what protein, and then my b12 was low on and on and on and on... I didn't realize there was that much to it.
My point, you might need additional testing to see what's going on if he can't figure something out.
Hopefully this rambling helps... Here's the article if you wanna read more about it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leukocytosis
Easy to read, to the point, accurate.
Take care, feel better!
