muscle cramps

hello. my 14 year old son complained twice that he's woken up in the morning with abdominal cramps and also a cramp in his calf. could it just be he's growing? or is he deficient in some vitamin. he takes a multi-vitamin daily and eats lots of fruit/bananas, etc...any advice would be appreciated. can't see his dr. 'till next week. thank you.

He may be deficient in Calcium which would cause muscle cramps. He could also be dehydrated. This can also casue muscle cramps. Many people, especially those who drink a lot of soda, are chronically dehydrated, and don't realize it. See if you can get him to drink at least 64 ounces of plain water each day. Maybe just buy the big bottles so he can monitor for himself how much he drinks.
