numbness on left side of my face

I woke up three weeks ago with a numb sensation all down the outer side of my left arm including my ring and pinky finger.I thought it was whatever way i slept on my arm that caused this numbness but the numbness remained for a week gradually fading util it was just my pinkey finger that remained numb. until eventually the numb feeling just went away...i put it down to nerves trapped or something like that but this morning i woke with the whole side of my face numb scary ****.. gradually over about 5 hours the numbness slowly disappeared but it remains at my left ear which is frozen to the  toutch and contains no feeling whatsoever......If any one can enlighten me to what might cause this PLEASE

Get to a neurologist, if you can, and then following this, a sleep doctor. It sounds like the cataplexy seen in narcolepsy patients, except the cataplexy in narcoleptics is bilateral and only lasts minutes, not hours or weeks. An MRI or CT scan of your head will probably reveal something. If not, bloodwork will be very useful--for calcium levels, vitamine levels, hormone levels, and the like.

Keep us posted on what happens!

Hi,

There’s a possibility of some lesion/pathology in the brain causing the symptoms mentioned by you. The numbness in the arm also should not last that long as the symptoms of the hand pressed/pinched nerves usually doesn’t last that long. Now since you have symptoms on the face also.

You need a thorough clinical examination to find out the cause and may be some diagnostic tests.

I hope that helps.  Please do keep me posted. Kind Regards.
