numerous symptoms

Hi, I woke 3 months ago with a really swollen ankle and leg right hand side also rightside numbness in body, I was admitted to hospital suspect stroke, I had brain scans, heart scan etc and all came back clear. On 2 more occasions the numbness came back but on the left then back to the right side of my body, I have also had boughts of fatigue, spams but only ever so slight, weakness in my arms and hands. Now I have cronic itching all over my body, there are know rashs etc and it jumps all over my body, I feel like riping my skin off. I am waiting for results from my MRI, my doctor is not very helpful and  thinks its all in my head, why would I waste my time and doctors time if this is all in my head. This is making me depressed and taking over my life,  I am currently taking Citalopram for depression just to get me through the day. Can somone shed some light on these symptoms??? Thanks Sarah.

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Unexplained aches and pains with rashes coming on and off could be due to fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s disease, H pylori infection, anemia, hypothyroidism, liver disorders, Vit B12 or Vit D deficiency and due to calcium or magnesium deficiency. Since there was ankle swelling Crohn’s and rheumatoid arthritis should be ruled out first. This needs a comprehensive investigation. Consult a doctor please. Take care!

Hello The itching, unexplained swelling, fatique, tremors (spasms) are all listed as side effects or signs of allergic reactions to Citalopram.  I don't know when you started taking the medication I'm guessing after the first swelling bout?  But the first thing I'd do is have the doctor take you off it and possibly even give you a low dose of Prednisone-to treat the reaction and to see if the majority of the symptoms disappear. Then work towards the diagnosis of the remaining symptoms.

It could be a nerve issues, problems such as liver/kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, lymphoma,  multiple sclerosis, etc.  But like I said I would start with changing the less restrictive possibility- the medication with those side effects and going from there.  Who Knows you might get lucky and end the majority of the symptoms, except the ones that caused you to start taking the medicine to start with.

I Hope This Helps.  Good Luck.

the tingling with no rash sounds like a nerve type problem. theres nerves throughout the body, literally everywhere. they interpret everything, including itchiness.. you could have a pinched nerve somewhere thats affecting all your nerves, or you could be having a problem with your nervous system in general. if your doctor wont take you seriously and address your complaints, you need to find one that will. you can also go to a massage therapist or an acupuncturist to see if their methods relieve the problem. if they cannot fix it, you will be stuck seeking answers from your doctor, so make sure he or she is someone that will work with you towards a solution and take your symptoms seriously.
