odd symptoms during/after taking azithromycin

hey!

Recently I was very sick and was given azithromycin for five days. While I was on it, I had terrible stomach pain and diarrhea. Now, it is about three to four days after, and I've been noticing blood in my urine. I also have stomach pain every so often, lower back pain, and feel very tired during the day. This all started about three days into taking the medicine. I'm 19 years old and I'm a virgin so there is no chance of pregnancy. I am also up at college dorming so I don't want to make a fuss over this if it maybe a side-effect of the medicine.

Thankyou for your time!

Hi again
I got my blood and urine tests back today. The doctors said whatever I have isn't an infection, and that I am anemic. I'm going for my ultrasound on Tuesday morning. I still have back pain and abdominal pain--especially the upper part now. I'll let you know how my test on Tuesday goes!

Hi
I went to the doctors today and got a blood and urine test done. My doctor said they found alot of red and white blood cells in my urine. Also, my doctor told me I have to go for a sonogram for my whole abdominal area. The rest of my test results for my urine/blood will be done by Saturday. However, she didn't say what it could be yet. I'm very anxious, have any general ideas?
Thankyou for all your help and insight!

Hi
Thanks for keeping me posted!
Normally you should only expect a urine analysis (routine and microscopic) and maybe a urine culture and sensitivity. This is usually enough for diagnosing a UTI. However if a stone or bladder and kidney infections are suspected after doing these tests then may be a sonogram may be ordered.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

Hi
Thankyou for answering!
It was prescribed for strep/fever/coughing because I'm highly allergic to Penicillin or anything that contains a form of it. My mother called my doctor and they actually think it maybe a UTI, bladder, or kidney infection. I'm going in on Wednesday to see my doctor. Do you know what tests I can expect? Until then I'm taking your advice about food intake, Thankyou!

Hi
Thanks for writing to the forum!
What was the drug prescribed for? UTI or respiratory infections? Though azithromycin is a good drug, it causes severe gastric upset and acidity. You can take over the counter omeprazole 20 mg, an antacid and lactobacillus for a few days. Avoid spicy and oily food and basically take light frequent meals. Some urine discoloration a pinkish/orange tinge is expected with the drug. However since you also have blood in urine, do consult a doctor.
Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
