oily substance in BM

Over the last few days I have had two oily bowel movements. The oily substance in the toilet water is dark brown/blackish in color.  The only changes that I can think of, are that I began allergy shots about a month ago and have been taking Veramyst nasal spray. What is wrong and what should I do?

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Oily stool is medically called steatorrhea. If you recently took alcohol, then rule out pancreatitis and cholangitis as the cause. Other possibilities are inflammatory bowel conditions such as Crohn’s, celiac, IBS etc. It can be side effects of slimming pills, and whether allergy shots are causing this or not needs to be checked. Bacterial overgrowth and short bowel syndrome where food passes very quickly can be another cause. Take probiotics and see if it helps.
It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral.
Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

One of two things for the oily factor
1. eccess fat in diet
2. older feces flushing out or eccess mucuos fron nasal meds
If the black stuff looks like coffee grounds could be signs of an ulser ect.
If so see your family doctor

You may have an ulcer. If the BM is very dark or the color of coffee grinds its probably blood in your stool. I would get it checked out. Do you have stomach pain. Have you taken Pepto Bismol? Pepto makes your stool that way and is often confused with blood or and Ulcer.

have you taken pepto bismol recently?  If not you may want to go to the doc... you may have a bleeding ulcer in the stomach... the blood is black by the time you pass it. black tarry stools are one of the signs of a bleeding ulcer high in the digestive tract
