pain under rightribs

by gleesy, Oct 01, 2007 05:48AM
I have pain under my right ribcage when exercising vigerously (Feels like stitch on the other side).. It becomes unbearable after 10/15 mins of running, whether i have eaten or not... Other than that am in good physical shape, need to know it just a simple thing, because its been going on for over a year. Doesn't occur at any other time than at peak exertion (soccer training fine)???
cheers

I get that a lot during a hard workout when I forget to breathe in enough.  It's not like a stitch in the side somebody gets because they're out of shape cardio-wise.  It's because sometimes people limit their oxygen intake and don't even realize it, so you get super painful muscle cramps.  Sometimes in your legs, sometimes in your abdomen, etc.  Mine are always under my ribs.  Just concentrate on taking some good deep breaths when you run to make sure you're getting enough oxygen in.  I do every 5th breath nice and deep.  Also, make sure you're getting enough electrolytes.  Lack of electrolytes will cause some nasty cramps as well during a run.  BTW, most electrolyte drinks don't have all four essential electrolytes, so check the nutrition label and try to make up the difference with a snack containing whatever's missing from your drink.  Hope that helps.
