pains

My daughter has been having headaches, pains under her breast in the rib cage area. in the middle of her chest, its sometimes between her shoulder blades moves to the bottom/mid part of her back; has a pain sometimes in belly area.  We have had Xrays that are clear and just had sonagram showing her spleen is enlarged.  They diagnosed her with Mono, I am leary of this diagnosis and would like if this could possibly be something serious.

Hi,

By mono I guess you refer to Infectious mononucleosis, more commonly known as glandular fever in other English-speaking countries. It occurs most commonly in adolescents and young adults, where it is characterized by fever, sore throat, muscle soreness, and fatigue. Infectious mononucleosis typically produces a mild illness in small children, and is often asymptomatic. Mononucleosis is predominantly caused by the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), which infects B cells (B-lymphocytes), producing a reactive lymphocytosis predominantly consisting of atypical lymphocytes, a specific type of T-cell that gives the disease its name.

A diagnosis of Mono can be established through examination and tests. Though, the EBV virus may remain dormant for some time and resurface at a later date. Please confirm this from a doctor though it is clear that the disease may be resurfacing of a previous infection.

:( I am sorry your daughter is not feeling well, and that you care enough and are good to look for help. Since she has mono, she should rest and follow any doctors instructions so she can get better soon. It is normal to worry about things like this. I have active EBV (same thing that causes Mono), and a large percentage of people are exposed to the EBV virus and never get sick. And there is the percentage of us that have. Keep a close eye on her and most of all make sure she does not over exert herself. You want to make sure her body can get on the mend and fight this. If it persists, get her to an infectious diseases doctor that deals with EBV and maybe they can help. I thought I had mono at first, but the doctor I had at the time was no cup of tea and this was in like 2004. About 6 months after I thought something was seriously wrong, then I tested positive for the virus. Don't worry overmuch if you can help it, Mononucleosis is common from what I understand and most people usually get better and are able to go on like normal. But since her spleen is enlarged, just make sure again that you find out from the doctor what she needs to be doing.
Peace and blessings
