petechiae on and off for a month

29 yr old female, 125lbs. 5'1" I have this rash that has been coming and going. First it showed up on my stomach and side and chest and now today on my neck. This has been over the past month or so. So I went to the dr who was very concerned over the rash and said I needed to have bloodwork done right away and that it was called petechiae and that I needed to go back in an hr and 1/2 to go over the results with him. He was sure my platelet counts were low. When I went back in he said my bloodwork came back normal. He was very surprised over this. (I am not for sure exactly what blood tests he had done.)(I do know he had looked in my mouth too and I have these spots in there also and I have been bruising easier and my gums have been bleeding and these spots have been showing up when I brush my teeth also on the inside of my lips). He told me that if this persists or gets worse to come back in, but then he called and said if it shows up anywhere else, like my arms or upper thighs to go back in so they can biopsy it so we will know for sure what it is; He doesn't want to do a biopsy on my neck. What would a biospy of the rash show? Is the only thing that should be done is a biospy of the petechiae? Is Petechiae always of concern? Or is there sometimes a benign cause? I know trauma can cause them, but I also know I didn't injure myself and as they keep coming and going. I am concerned over his concern that this is something . (Currently taking 100mg topamax/day for ptc.) Thank you for your time, I appreciate it.

Nothing from the dr. He had just told me if I found them on my arms or legs to get a biopsy and I have yet to see them there. Just see them again on my stomache and in my mouth on the bottom lip, usually after I brush my teeth. Did you hear anything about your petechiae?

Have you heard anything back from your doctor.

I have petechiae all over my feet/ankles/shins, so I am interested in your findings.

From your description, it would seem like a referal to a specialist might be in order.

I know a CBC was done and that the dr was convinced he would find a low platelet count. He stated that my bloodwork came back normal. What other blood test was done I am not sure of. He had said that 2 needed to be done, one I am assuming the CBC, the other I am not sure and if he had decided on any others before I got to the lab I am not sure.

There is definitely a benign cause of Petechiae, but the one I know about generally happens on the lower end of the body.

It is called Schamberg's disease.  However, I am not a doctor, but reading your description, it doesn't seem to fit.

As this is a symptom of some serious diseases (as well as some that are of little concern), I would have it checked out by a doctor in person.

A quick CBC (Complete Blood Count) will tell you alot about the possibilities, and hopefully eliminate the severe ones.
