red blotches down center of face and itchy scalp

Occasionally, I get a break out that lasts about an hour. I get red blotches down the center of my face, surrounding my mouth...even around my eyes and surrounding my eyebrows. These blotches are not raised off my skin and they do not itch, but my head is extremely itchy. I have not been able to target a reason for this breakout. Each time it occurs I examine what I have eaten, but there doesn't seem to be a trend. The rash never extends past my facial and head area.

I have had similar but it tends to last longer than an hour.
Could it be a dust allergy or at least something airborne, if you can't track it down to something you've eaten.
I also get it when I get a cold or flu.  It is some sort of immune reaction to a virus.  Took me years to figure out the cause.

Good luck.

I had a similar thing and was given an antibiotic , metronidazole, for Rosacea. I have flare ups every once and awhile and this takes care of it.  However, once when a Dr. at the ER saw it he thought I may have lupus.  I am now being tested for lupus because of other symptoms including chronic fatigue.  So you may want to have both checked.
