right side pains

Hello all,

I wanted to see if anyone has an idea.  I am a 34 year old male, with chronic right side(back and stomach) pain. The pain is to the right of my belly button and a little bit below my rib cage.  It is pretty severe(to the touch) I recently had a full GI test which was normal.  I also had my appendix removed.  The pain is severe when I wake up in the morning. I have constant diarrhea.  After I pass the diarrhea the pain subsides but will come back in a few hours.  I have not had a solid stool in about 2 years and the pain in my side has been around 1 year.  I have greatly increased my fiber and changed my diet and it is not helping :)  BTW my urination is so frequent usually within minutes of drinking I have to use the restroom. The same can be said for bowel movements usually 45 minutes, and I have not seen any blood in urine or stool

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL

Hello,
Upper right abdominal pain can be caused by biliary colic, cholecystitis (inflammation of gall bladder), irritable bowel syndrome, hepatitis(inflammation of the liver), kidney stones, pneumonia, musculoskeletal pain, lower rib fracture and malignancy.

In your case, gall bladder disease and irritable bowel syndrome need to be ruled out. Get an ultrasound and a HIDA scan of the gall bladder done. Chronic diarrhea can be due to irritable bowel syndrome, celiac disease, crohn’s disease, malabsorption syndromes, pancreatic diseases, diabetes, hyperthyroidism etc. Since you frequent urination also, get the diabetes status checked by glycosylated hemoglobin which will reflect over all glucose control in pats 3 months. Uncontrolled diabetes could be cause of frequent urination and diarrhea.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
