shingles behind my ear

I was having severe shooting pain behind my ear and the ear was sore to the touch. I thought I was having a stroke. The doctor said it was shingles and ask if I had a rash. No, i didn't. He put me on Valtrax and said to take the pain meds. already prescribed for me. Over the week-end, I slept for almost 2 days and felt as if I would die with the flu like symptons. I now have a few bumps behind my ear, hairline and 2 on the neck but it just feels like bumps, It itches, Is it possible to feel like you are so sick and nothing to drink or eat. How long do I have to put up with this?

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Since the pain was followed by bumps and itching, it can be shingles. It will take about a week for major recovery and then another week for complete cure. Take plenty of fluids, an antacid gel and eat healthy to regain strength. Take care!

thanks, it's now going into the second week and my ear is still sore to the touch and I really never broke out in a rash that I was expecting. I was soooooo sick. My neck hurts also but they tell me it follows a nerve. I just want to feel better, I'm 73 years old and do not like to feel my age but this is kicking butt.
