short of breath, cough, x ray shadow on bottom left...

by Starswhispers, Jul 01, 2008 12:07PM
My husband is 57 years old ex-smoker (light) stopped 7 years ago had shortness of breatth for around a year cough getting worse for 3 months.
His medical history is:
Severe asthma as a child
Nearly died from duodenal ulcer undiagnosed (negligence of the GP) 6 years ago.
Had sleep apnea 10 years ago and underwent an operation to trim the tissue in his throat.
Has recurrent Dupuytren's contractures and undergo operations for it when necessaary.
Had pleurisy 5 years ago was clear after treatment with antibiotics.
Has high cholesterol and takes Statin. He takes as well Lanzoprazole for excess acids.
He went to the GP for his cough 2 months ago and was given a course of antibiotic had a slight improvement
but then felt very tired coughing more at night time he was then given a course of prednesolone for a week
which did not help.
Last month his GP sent him for a chest x-ray after 2 days the hospital called him asking him to have a lateral x-ray
of the left lung as they found an anomaly at the bottom of the left lung.
When he saw his GP she collected sputum for a test and said that she does not think it is cancer more likely and infection and may be TB and she refered him to the respiratory clinic to see a specialist he has 2 weeks ago been given an appointment for next week.
I have just gone to the surgery and they told me that the sputum test is clear and there is no need for action
(the sputum test was collected on the 12 of June and results sent back on the 16 of June),far too short time to find out about TB I beleive.
Now his cough is really bad at time specialy night time and morning (very deep cough but he does not bring up any
phlegm ) he complains a lot that he cannot breath properly still continue to work has not lost weight and eat well.
Next week they will perform some breathing test and lungs radio...
Please can you let me know what you think? I feel really worried.
THanks.
