should i maybe seek medical attention?

okay i'm 26 yars old, healthy and very energetic but i've noticed for the past three years i have noticed that by the end of the day my lower legs and ankle are badly swollen. i work in the surgical field so i wear scrubs everyday at work, swelling gets so bad that i don't dare wear boots to work because by the end of the day when i have to change back into my clothing my boots won't fit or zip and have asked for opinions but never really seen my physician. it could just be edema but i've been in the same occupation for more then three years so couldd it be maybe i just aged alittle and my body is giving up on me? i also thought i have poor blood circulation too because i sometimes gets numbness to my arms but ws told maybe it's just an impingement in the shoulder but if it isn't maybe that could also be the cause for it then recently i had a kidney infection and i read before that sometimes swelling could be a symptom for kidney disease! coincident of i need medical attention?

thanks for your replies.

actually i work in the surgery department as a OR SCheduler so basically my job is a sit down job, at first i thought maybe it was because i didn't do enough moving or walking but i've been at my job for more then five years and this just started happening three years ago. i'm young and healthy and is not currently taking any medications. regarding my kidney infection, that was only two months ago. however that's been taken care of except the swelling to my legs and ankles.

Yea you need to have it checked out and rule out kidney malfuction. Don't rely on just your GP. See a kidney specialist. Good luck.

I think I'd have paid my GP a visit. It could be because of walking around so much but some meds could cause it (you don't mention any use of medications). When your feet are changing that much over only a few hours, it is something that would definitely make me seek my GP's opinion.

How long ago was your kidney infection? Was the swelling just as prevalent before the infection too or did it get worse after that?
