spotting black/chocolate blood,normal? 5cm ovarian cyst

Lately before my period starts and after it stops I spot black/chocolate blood (clots too, sometimes looks like tar) is this normal or anyone experience this?(endometriosis?) I never done this before its been last 3 months .Month ago found 5cm (golfball size)cyst on right ovary on ultrasound, not sure if it's went away since I continue to have symptoms, nausea, low grade fever, severe sharp, cramping pain that radiates to right upper gallbladdr area, hip, thigh, rectal, and leg pain, sometimes feel like insides are being twisted or pinched constanly! Is it possible the sharp pain that comes in waves of few min mean its twisting?? is that serious?I cant stand to walk, move or eat! my dr is still blowing it off as ibs or bowel issues but i feel its something more, last 4 months had severe abdominal pain ended up in hospital oct 27th for appendix that was close to rupturing! I  dont know if should I trust my gut instinct and go to hospital or wait for my ultrasound in 2 weeks?! any advice ty!

The mixed revues are right.  It could be endometriosis and it could be ovarian cysts.  The dark discharge is old blood expelling out.  Yes endometriosis mimics plenty of other diseases.  Have you had a transvaginal sonogram?  That is the best type of sonogram, insist on one!  Is it your gyn doctor "blowing" the symptoms off? If so you need a new one.  What state do you live in?  Also ask your doctor on how to use the birth control pill in the way that will stop your period that is what will be really beneficial for endometriosis stopping the ovulation process will stop the growth from continuing and help shrink the scar tissue.  Hopefully they will share that information with you.  Stay away from the Lupron unless it is a last resort.  It puts you into a menopausal state and You get the mood swings among other unpleasent symptoms and it is only a temporary fix.  Pregnancy is not a guarantee to help remember there is NO CURE for endometriosis.  There have actually been cases where a women is asymptomatic until the birth of their first child.  Lastly there is a prescription called ponstel which I discovered helped with the discomfort.  Talk to your doctor about that.

Good Luck Hope you do write back so we know how the sono went

Welcome to my world. I have the same exact symptoms as yourself for over 4yrs or so. (I just turned 29yrs old) My ordeal started off having severe lower right abdominal pain-went to the ER & they thought it was an appendicitis, it was not, turned out to be an ovarian cyst that ruptured. About 2 months later I had severe pain again on the right side going through my shoulder & crushing pain in chest-that turned out to be a gallbladder attack. Because I was having gallbladder attacks (they were very severe) they removed my gallbladder (was 24 at the time, not over weight, doesn't run in the family, didn't even know that you couldn't live without your gallbladder at that time)evidentially i had a faulty gallbladder. But a month after that I was still having the severe right lower abdominal pain. I have been living with the pain since then. I did ALL of the GI tests - i have GERD & IBS. did the gyno thing - i have seen about 4 or more in the past 4 yrs or so - one put me on Lupron shots & I would NEVER do that again. i haven't been the same since. i have been diagnosed with endometriosis & i do have cysts. so pretty much to deal with the pain i see a pain doctor - i am on fentanyll 50mcg, tramadol & effexor to control the pain. i actually just started to see a new gyno & she has put me on birthcontrol (femcon fe) to see what happens. inconclusion, i know EXACTLY you are going through - it really sucks, i have lost jobs because of this pain. one dr. told me the only way this will eventually go away is to get pregnant (which is currently not an option for me, i don't even have a man right now to do that) so i deal with the pain & hopefully the birthcontrol will do something. I would love to know what they tell you. Keep us posted!

Thanks to everyone for your replies! I have ultrasound Thur the 21st.Still having cramping pain, that I can deal with its the sharp stabbing pain every few min.,not to mention what feels like bowel pressure and trapped gas, been living on laxatives once a week, and still feel constipated, constant urge and rectal pressure for bm,so bloated I cant stand to wear jeans or pants!
so I'm thinking it must be the cyst causing this havoc! I had laparscopy in Aug to check for endometriosis ,the oby/gyn didnt see any,but my best friend had endometrosis and her 1st laparscopy didnt reveal it.Seems like IBS/and endometriosis mimics each other or its common to have both and have flare up's around that time of month but I have this pain everyday!
Hopefully Thur will reveal what is going on,hoping to feel better before Christmas!
             Happy Holidays to all!

that sounds like the endometriosis I have. They finally had to put me on birthcontrol to help. It did but I still get the nasty tar-like stuff at the end of my periods. But you still want to let your doc know.

I had a problem once while menstruating - where I couldnt walk - and was rushed to the er becasue of the pain - its highly likely its becasue of the cyst. The right upper pain shouldnt be ignored. Get blood work and have them check your gallbladder and liver.

If you are hurting that bad, you should go to the ER.  Cysts too can rupture or become twisted with other organs and can causes major pain.  I don't think I'd wait 2 weeks!

Can you call your OB/GYN physician and perhaps get seen tomorrow ? If you don't think you can be seen right away, I would consider going to Urgent Care and/or the Emergency Room.
