stabbing/burning abdominal pain for over a year

i have a burning/stabbing pain right above and to the right of my navel, i have had several umbilical hernia repairs, 1 of them to remove the mesh that wasnt inserted properly which resulted in infection.i have been having the same feeling for well over a year now, it's not constant, but i feel it every day.i had a cat scan last jan, and it showed nothing, no infection/ fluid/or hernia.my surgeon said it is more than likely my body doesnt like the mesh that was put in place. sure they could take it out, but then i run the risk of getting the hernia back.also sometimes when i am laying on my left side or if i have a cough, or sneeze, the pain is almost unbearable, i cant tell if it is a stabbing or burning pain. do you have any ideas what i can do to relieve this or who i should talk to, or any idea what it could be. thanks for your time

Pressing my abdomen close to the right hip bone causes me pain.  Older sister has the same syndrome.  Pain comes and goes.  Some have suggested irritable bowel syndrome or spastic colon.  No answers yet...good luck.
