swelling in abdomen, legs, feet

hello, i am a 37 yr old male with type 1 diabetes, about three months ago i caught the local bug (dry cough, sinus issues),was prescibed antibiotics, about two weeks after taking, the same symptoms returned, prescibed antibiotics again, same result.i just finshed my third round of antibiotics, and at the moment everything seems fine, except now i have some unexplained swelling in my legs, feet and abdomen.  doc prisciped a fluid pill which sent my blood glucose into hyperdrive, .i stopped taking it.i still have the swelling, and the swelling in the abdomen is acompanied with shortness of breath(fatigue) with any physical activity I do(bending over for short periods, lifting, carrying heavy things.the swelling has been persistent for about a week,i sleep with my legs propped up and my feet and legs return to normal by morning, only to swell again by the end of the day.blood test came back negative. i have no pain with the swelling (other than just being in discomfort, and the shortness of breath). bowel movements are normal(maybe a little soft), urine output is also normal. whats causing the swelling????

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Usually conditions of heart, kidney, liver or low protein or severe anemia cause both ankles and legs to swell and swelling can go up to the lower abdomen. Hence you will need to get heart function assessed by ECHO and EKG, get kidney and liver function tests done and get a complete blood picture for anemia. Low sodium in blood, hypothyroidism and malabsorption syndromes causing low protein in blood have to be looked into. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral. Take care!
