swelling of hands and feet

female, 40yrs, I have Von Willebrands, Reynauds, high blood pressure, insomnia, loss of appetite and weight, blood clots, joint and muscle pain.  My hands and feet swell causing much pain, adding to my already increasing anxity.  doctors say, not to worry, they want me to have an angiogram but won't say why. I have had a choly, hyst, small bowell resection, several abdominal laps for lysis of adhesions, my bone density is almost nil.  Still they look at me like I am some kind of drug seaking freak.  I am allergic to the sun because of my blood pressure meds and need to hide out in the house like a bat. All I want is for someone to tell me why and what I have so I don't need to worry about dropping of a heart attack or something related.  I also have markers for RA and other vascular related problems.  Anyone out there sharing any similar symptons, I would be greatful for any input

You may still be suffering from Lyme disease. The standard tests are unreliable and can be misleading. And a short course of antibiotics opens the door to relapse. Please visit the International Lyme and Associated Diseases website for information about management guidelines.

Good luck.

you may need an angiogram, venogram those can be done by cat scan, or mri nowadays.
i would suggest a chest cta for pulmonary embolism.  you say have have hx of blood clots, dvt?
anyway, hypertension plays a major role, hows your cholestorol, youve had many surgeries that may not be related. although your colon resection was done for what reason, and how long ago?
what meds do they give you when your in pain?

May 2001 I found a tick in my head I went to the doctor and she said yes it is definitely a bullseye rash they took blood and the blood work came back negative.  I started seeing black spots floating around then I started feeling very weak I told the doctor she treated me for Lyme disease with strong antibiotics for three weeks.  During the first two weeks I was very sick I could not even stand up in the shower. I stared to feel better but the rash would not go away even after I was done with my antibiotics.  I went to the doctor again and she found the head of the tick still in my head.  she pulled it out  and then the rash went slowly away.  About six months later I started to feel very light headed and dizzy everyday and hated it I could not figure out what was wrong with me nor could any doctors.  Then I started to have pain and numbness in my feet, ankles, legs, hands, and sometimes my stomach.  For awhile I was having diarrhea now it is severe constipation and bad swelling in my feet, ankles, calves, and hands.  I went far as having a hysterectomy because I thought that would fix me atleast my doctors thought it would.  I take vicodin every day because I have to keep on working I do not have a diagnoses yet and I want to know what is wrong with me because and does not get any better and gets worse slowly.  I have to take vitamins and an extra b12 injection because my body is loosing its nutrients and minerals slowly.  If anybody is going through anything similar or may have any recommendation please respond I would love to here.

Look at Parvovirus B19

Arthropathy
It has become increasingly clear over the past several years that parvovirus B19 causes arthritis and arthralgias in adults and children. Although parvovirus infections in adults are most commonly asymptomatic, an estimated 60 percent of women with symptomatic disease manifest arthropathy.18,19 Men appear to be affected much less frequently.

The arthropathy associated with parvovirus B19 infection usually resolves by three weeks but persists in 20 percent of affected women.
{short description of image}

The most common presentation of parvovirus-related arthropathy in adults is the acute onset of arthralgias or frank arthritis involving the hands, knees, wrists and ankles. The symptoms usually subside within one to three weeks, although about 20 percent of affected women have persistent or recurring arthropathy for months and years.18 Concurrent constitutional symptoms such as fever are rare, but one half of patients have an associated generalized rash, and about 15 percent have the typical facial exanthem.19

The incidence of parvovirus-related arthropathy is lower in children than in adults, and girls are more likely than boys to have joint symptoms. Reports from a series of 22 children presenting to a pediatric rheumatology clinic with serologic or clinical evidence of an acute parvovirus B19 infection have shed light on the clinical features of arthropathy in children.20 Unlike in adults, the arthropathy in children most commonly affects the large joints such as the knees, ankles and wrists, mostly in an asymmetric pattern. In the series of 22 children, one half of the children had concurrent constitutional symptoms but, surprisingly, only one third had a concurrent exanthem. Although the joint symptoms promptly resolved in most of the children, eight of the 22 children had prolonged symptoms, and their disease would have met the criteria for juvenile rheumatoid arthritis if the diagnosis of parvovirus infection had not been made.

Not much help here, other than knowing that Vitamin K helps with bleeding disorders. My ex husband also has von willebrands .

>Still they look at me like I am some kind of drug seaking freak.<

Being an ex Pharmacist Technician (short duration) I understand first hand drug seekers. If this is not you and you get this impression, tell the doctors straight up that you are not after drugs but a resolve, preferably without drugs if possible.

I am wondering if all these conditions are being treated by different doctors and if your gp is aware of them.

You really need a sharp doctor, who considers all of your conditions.
Sometimes I've worried that people are being treated for seperate symptoms when they are related to one. True, people can have more than one diesese.

Have you had a CBC, thyroid and blood glucose checked?

Allergic to the sun on account of BP meds? My mom takes BP meds but doesn't seem to have a problem with the sun.
I have heard that those with Lupus have a terrible time with the sun and is a multisystem disease.

Wish I could be of more help.
