swollen patches on either side of tail bone

my husband had pain in his tail bone and then noticed swollen patches on either side abouitan inch in diameter each right about an inch below the top of his tuch crack. Is this an orthapedic issue, or something that requires a more serious type of doctor?   Is it ok to wait until tomorrow, or should be be treating this more urgently?

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
It is difficult to comment what the swelling it. It can be an abscess or pus pocket since it is painful. Other than this, it can be soft tissue injury or a herniated disc.
Yes, first consult an orthopedic specialist. You can wait until tomorrow provided he does not strain at all. Let your husband lie on a bed, straight with knees folded or on his side to take the strain off the back. You can gently rub in a local analgesic and apply heat pad. Consult a doctor as soon as possible.
Take care!
