throat

I am a nurse and have been ill for almost two months. I am usually a very healthy person of average weight. I was sick for two weeks with sore throat/acid reflux? taking tums and pepto bismo, then I made an appointment with my family physician having the complaints of constant burning in my throat regardless of position or type of food I ingested. she looked at my throat and said she seen "red streaks". she prescribed protonix and carafate. I took these for two weeks with no relief. I went to a GI specialist (after waiting more than 2 weeks to be seen with 8/10 throat pain.) but I only got to see the NP she did not look at my throat and prescribed nexium for one week then to switch to prilosec if nexium did not help and a barium swallow and EGD (which is scheduled for feb!).
I had a cbc, thyroid test, and h pylori all of which came back negative. stool negative for blood. I have lost atleast 8 pounds and am very depressed that I am not improving. I do not even feel like getting up out of bed each day because ever day my throat hurts. I have no fever, eye pain, ear pain or any other sx for that matter. I am planning on making an appointment with an ENT doctor after the weekend. The only surgery Iv'e had is a tonsillectomy. Please let me know what you think. ps-slightly hard to swallow and belching makes pain worse

Hi I really feel for you.  Ive had the same problem been on simalar meds no change plus lost weight nearly a stone the last few months. My dr treated me for reflux despite the fact I dont get heartburn. She said you dont necessarily get heartburn with reflux so dont really know. Im having an endescopy tomorrow down my throat ,stomach etc so maybe something will turn up who knows. You definately need to see someone else as its horrible having to put up with it I know. Sorry I can't offer any solutions . Take care Chris
