thumb bone sticking out plz respond ASAP

about anywhere from 3-5 yrs ago i was at cheer practice and i was putting up a mount. it was an extension mount and when it was time to bring the girl down and cradle ( i was the spotter, the person who stands in the back to catch the girl and make sure she doesnt hit the ground) she came down on my thumb hard and i heard a loud pop. ever since then my thumb has been crooked and the bone sticks out noticibley. i cant bend it to touch my pinky finger, and every time i massage it it hurts real bad, also wen its cold or wen it rains it hurts really bad, i often experience occasional stiffness. ive never had it looked at because ive always had to take care of more important things..so can any one give me any suggestions on what this can be?

Your thumb won't just go back into place on it's own and also since it happened so many years ago and wasn't put back into place then.It has somewhat healed in it's no position. And tendons and what not have learned to move and do what they can now in the position it is in now. And you can still move it because you may not have torn your tendon to badly and you have some mobility. It's hard to say though not knowing exactly where they protrution is on your thumb just like your fingures your thumb has 3 (knuckles) as well but the third is down farther by your wrist. Is it there that is is sticking out or up farther. Non the less ......you hurt it and now it has lived this way for so long your going to have pain and not be able to do certain things with it and they may NOT be able to do much of anything for you now being it's been so long. If they were to do something I would imagine surgery being the only answer. Ice and anti inflamitories sound best to me for it at this point until you can get in with someone who can give you an expert opinion.

Hello!
it sounds like you dislocated your thumb...and it hasn't healed properly since...At this point, I'd contact an orthopedic Dr and see if there is anything that can be done...he may recommend surgery to repair the ligaments/ tendons that have been torn...For now, ice and anti inflammatories like ibuprofen may help, but not fix...
