tingling tongue etc. 9 months

Hi, for over nine months now my tongue will go numb/tingle at points in the day most often at night before bed (seems to go away if I sit up straight). It first happened around nine months ago and went completely numb 3 times at first and since it seems to be just an area on the left side and sometime on the right giving the feeling/sensation of when your mouth is unfreezing from teh denstist sometimes leaving a metallic taste. I recently went to my Dr. and had my blood rested and I don't think anything is wrong there. I do a lot of martial arts and wrestling and often wake up with neck pain, but lately I have been getting odd tingling/sudden small shocks trough out my body however i am not sure if they are brought on from severe anxiety as i am convinced something is seriously wrong. The Dr. checked my vision and balance etc. and said not to worry about the major things these symptoms could be on the internet. However, I am completely scared now it is something serious as the blood tests seem to be normal. I am suppose to move across the country to finish my degree but am scared to do so if this is a serious problem. Does anyone know what this could be?  I am a 28 y/o male if that helps. Thank you very much

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Tingling, burning or itching of tongue is usually due to vitamin B12 deficiency. Low intrinsic factor in gut that hampers absorption of B12 and causes pernicious anemia is the commonest cause. If this is so the increasing intake of B12 will not help, and you will need to take Vitamin B12 injections at regular frequency as prescribed by your doctor. Other causes are parasites in the gut, diet poor in Vit B12, Crohn;s disease, IBS, or poor metabolism by liver are the causes behind it. Please consult a doctor to rule these out. Take a diet rich in Vit B12 which should include meat and animal products, cheese, such as beef, liver, salmon, cod, and eggs. Take B12 supplements and breakfast cereals fortified with vitamin B12. Finding the cause is important.
Other possibility is an acid reflux. Take Omeprazole empty stomach in morning and an antacid gel at bedtime. Refrain from smoking, alcohol, fuzzy drinks and spicy food. See if this helps.
Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care!
